Default cleaning, spray-painting block questions...

Just recently bought a b18c5 bareblock and was wondering what can I use to clean dirty block which is filled with grease,dust,etc.. ?

and would anyone recommend spray-painting the block? would it affect performance somehow?

-thanks

Simple green and scotchbrite pads (or the back of a sponge) get a few, cuz you will go through them. Keep a bucket of water with dishwasher detergent handy too.

As long as the aluminum isnt oxidezed (white blotchy marks) you can make it bling blinb again.

I just finished putting my b18c5 back together (complete teardown and rebuild) but haven;t took pictures yet.

painting the block has been known to make it smoother ,therfore air flows over it better making the car able to faster, less resistance

Is that like painting the valve cover with high temp paint preventing heat from escaping into the engine bay alowing for a colder air charge going into my short ram intake boosting the horsepower gains from it to like 15 to 20 whp ?

You guys seem to be sarcastic and trying to make it sound ricey to paint the block...

What is wrong with doing that? You can't use regular spray paint, but people sell engine block paint! it's done all the time.

Domestic boys have been doing it 50+ years!

IMHO it makes the engine look really nice if done correctly.

i like to use purple power degreaser.make sure you mix it cuz it's very concentrated.iv'e seen it dull car paint if it isn;t mixed right.

Simple green works great. But when you have a block that's been siting at the storage for a while. I call Mr. Air Craft grade remover... That made my block look like it was just machined by mr Honda himself.

get simple green at costco and spray it on full strength..i spray d my wheels with it and u can just see the garbage melt off..u dont want something thats so strong that it ll tear up ur seals, bushings or any other petro. base d product..stuff like oven cleaner will definitly *** up seals..simple green full strenth..spray on..let sit 10min. ...spray off..repeat if necessary with some elbow grease
