92 civic. loss power, engine shuts, can't start
Hi, this is my first time posting question here. Pardon me for any grammar mistakes.
2 days ago while I was dring my 1992 auto civic dx, the engine suddenly loss its power and after that shuts. When I try to start the engine again, the engine makes the usual starting sound without any success. tried 4 times without success.
Today, after I bring to the workshop told me that my engine is screwed. I need to change the whole engine. The guy told me that if i changed my timing belt earlier, this thing will not be happen. He also said that my piston was dented.
replacing the engine will cost me around 1500CAD. I'm a new driver, hope anyone can help me with cheap solutions. thx..

How did her know the pistons were dented? did he take the head off, or put a scope in there? Do you hear any unusal noise from the engine, like knocking or ticking sounds? Did your timing belt snapped?
I'm newbie so I just trust him about piston dented. he did'nt show me though. as for the engine, it was running as usual before this terrible thing happened.. He just showed me that the timing belt was disconnected. I was suspecting that he did something while I was not there. because I left my car for him to diagnose while I was in college... hope he did'nt cheat me..
If thats the case, i think you will need another motor. worse case when broken belt, bent valves. A new motor will need to be put in, if your piston really isnt dented or damaged, you can get away with using another civic head. I would look for prices on motors, i think 1500 is alot, for a stock motor and to put it in. I would go find another motor off the streets for about less than 400 and pay for the guy's labor charges.

when the timing belt breaks it leaves the cam sitting in the place that it was last. Depending on what cylinder was firing, two of the valves were probaly at full duration. meaning they were open and when the piston came back up it smacked the valves that were open. Usually you dont get just a dent which is what I dont get. Usually you get a smashed A** piston. unless the valves werent all the way open/
Im guessin that by your name that your a girl? And if so dont let this shop get you!!!! Make sure you see the damage. Most honda engines are tolerence motors meaning that a timing belt can break and the engine can be fixed.
