I had a question about valves. My stock D15B7 has about 161XXX miles on it and it has burned 2 valves within the past year. I have heard that this can happen just because of normal wear and tear, but I suspect something else.

The first time the valve was replaced, and the head was milled down. Some backyard mechanic in AL did it so he possibly didn't set the timing or valve lash correctly. Could this have caused it to burn the second valve?

Since my little Civic DX now sounds like a John Deere tractor, I decided to do a mini me swap. I'm getting a new P08 ECU, a D15B VTEC JDM head, D16Y8 head gasket, D16Z6 timing belt/water pump, and new plugs and wires. Hopefully this will fix my little issue. I'm going to try to follow the write-ups and do it my self. Hopefully the piston rings and everything down below is aight. Any advice?

 

some advice would be to go ahead and replace everything that you can. It is very inexpensive, You may as well go ahead and replace the rings and bearings since you will have the motor apart anyways. Just my .02

 

Your "mechanic" shold have done a valve adjustment. I would check timing if its off.

 

valvetiming is culprit most liekly, or a major exhaust leak.



why are you getting a jdm d15b head? that is prolly more expensive then finding a d16z6 head, they are the same exact thing, outside of the motor they were originally bolted to.


unless you are getting a good deal on the head I suggest attempting to find a Z6 head

Yeah I already have the D15 head. I heard it has a slightly more aggressive cam. I don't really know how much of a difference it will make. We will see. I'm gonna dive into it as soon as I get the last couple of parts.

 

i would at least pull a piston and check the ring gap, plasti gauge the bearings to get an idea of what shape your motor is in and go from thier

 

Valves are adjusted too tight most likely.

 

Could be too tight. hmmm... I will do my best to make sure everything is right this time. I guess what they say is true, "If you want something done right, do it yourself".

I've never pulled pistons before. I know its a delicate process. Is there a way to release the pistons through the oil pan without pulling out the block?
