Thinking of selling my 99si for an 06+ 4 door
I am not totally sold on the looks of the new si, even after a few years. I just love the way my 99si looks, but I am 26 now and I feel like it's kind of a teenager looking car. What do I need to know about these cars? Are all 06-08si the same in terms of hp, and do they all have lsd? I know the tranny is hit or miss, but is there a bad year or a good year to look for? I was hoping to find an 08 4 door si in red or white. Hopefully those colors aren't impossible to find like a white s2k is haha. Hopefully I can sell the si for a good price and get into something a bit more mature, as well as 4 doors for my daughter. Anything to look for on these cars? I've spent almost no time looking into it yet, but I need a 4 door and you can't go wrong with Honda. I wanted an Sti, but I'd never buy a used one and don't wanna pay 40k for a new one. Thanks!
i personally dont think there are any problems with the dbw.... but if u want a fa5 its 07+. if its an 07 check the maintence records, there is a 3rd gear tsb which is a sticky on here i think. but yea they all the same. 07-08 and 09+ are really only cosmetic things, front end, rear trunk piece and different seat material. also i think they changed something with the shifter but not entirely sure.
so pretty much just the trans problem on the 07 and maybe older 08. havent had a problem with mine

I love the TSX it was tops on my list until my wife and I talked it over and realized that it was just too nice a car...I'd simply never take the dog anywhere, we'd take her car everywhere for everything...which isn't that bad I love her car but I'd like to have my own car I want to drive on road trips and such...TSX is a superb car but not a chance in hell I'd let my dog even breath on the seats...muchless ride in one.
I miss my 99 too
I think the build quality was better and I know I could beat on it without any worry. Want another after I get a house with a garage.

The white is a touch hard to find, but not impossible. Like the others said, the 3rd gear issue is for 07 and older, my FA5 was made in May 08 and it was well out of range for the third gear issue per the VIN.
While the DBW does take some getting used to, there are ways around it. Flashpro, reflashes and every your Honda dealer can do something to nearly eliminate the DBW lag.

I have never had an issue with DBW.
My DBW car is my daily driver, a 2006 Accord V6-6. It recently put on a very good show at a road course against various police interceptors and DBW was never a problem.

dbw in these cars are horrible, i drive em in and out the shop at work all the time and the delay is horrible...under then that they are nice cars...few issues.
The dealer did an "update" to mine, specifically to reduce the lag in the DBW of my Si. Seemed a little more responsive. I can tell you, once you reflash or use flashpro/accessport, it all goes away. Appears to be a Si specific problem too, all other Honda/Acura DBW don't have the same issue.

There was a group of early 08 SIs that fit into the range, as well. My 08 was manufactured after the supposed cutoff date, but I have still experienced issues with 2nd and 3rd gear.
I think the only ones that have had the issue were first quarter FY 08. Meaning it could of been an 08 made in 07 after OCT1, meh just a thought.
Personally, I would never go back to any of the previous Civics (and Integras) because of noise level, lack of comfort and that sense of being in a tin-can. I also don't have any problem with my DBW (maybe I've gotten used to it) but it's the future.
Umm, Drive By Wire throttle systems are designed to increase throttle response. It might
seem weird at low rpm, but its at the higher end of the rpm band where DBW makes a
significant difference in throttle response. Not saying the civic's is perfect in anyway, like Nexx said its the future.
Top tuner companies have been installing DBW for better throttle response for years now.

Right, but its only worked to professional driver's satisfaction in the NSX. I have an o6 CL9 TSX, and can't wait to convert back to cable throttle. MY brother owns a an 05 S2000, and is happy that he has that year because it does NOT have that blasted DBW system. Increased throttle response my koester. If DBW wasn't an issue with the ECU, then I'm sure Hondata would not have wasted time creating a code fix for that in its flash system.
There was an Italian engineer who conducted a test a few years ago comparing a boxster porsche w/ DBW and did some data comparisons with direct cable. Even he felt the cable was more reliable and not subject to code errors and quirkiness that most DBW systems have.
DBW other than the NSX is complete CRAP.... *end rant*

I'm so sorry you feel that way. I'm 33 and still have mine, though I bought another car as my daily. The EM1 will be one of those cars that if you sell it, you'll regret it later, for at least not keeping it for a few years afterwards. Maybe I just hold on to older stuff because it was better than this MachPherson suspension the new models have now.
