Default 1996 Accord A/C Problem

Just bought a 96 accord knowning that the a/c did not work properly we figured we would be able to put some freeon in it and go from there but when we tried the system was already charged. So we were thinking maybe we need to have the system vac'd out and recharged.
But after reading some other posts im wondering if im just wasting my time. When the car is running and i turn the a/c on you can hear the compressor kick in and it seems like it is working fine. The fans are blowing fine but its just not cold. It seems like several other people have had similar problems and it turned out to be the thermostat. What do you think? Im no a/c specialist.

first thing I would try is....

On the firewall there is a valve that is supposed to be moved when you turn the temp dial on the climate control. On the 94-97 Accord it's somewhat common for the temp **** to break and you not even realize, this means that valve isn't moving when you turn the ****. And it seems to always happen with it stuck in the warm position.

Take note of the valves position, turn the **** and then see if the valve has changed position. If it hasn't, manually reach down there and move it yourself.

See if that helps, I'm thinking it might seeing as how you already said the fan and compressor work as well as the system being charged.

here is a diagram to help, the valve is #1

The valve seems to be moving the full range of motion.

If the valve is working fine and you are sure the feon levels are okay then I look at the thermostat located near the evap housing. This was the culprit on my 96 Accord and quite easy to replace. Once this was replaced I've had cool air for days!! Good luck
