Default Can I use an OBD1 t-body/intake manifold with my OBD0 ECU?

Search wasnt much help..

I am converting my B16 to OBD1 and I was wondering if I can at least start by throwing on the t-body and IM and still be able to daily drive? or will the OBD0 ECU not read the sensors correctly?

thanks,

-Chris

Try it and see! I don't see why it would be a problem? The same connectors

Yes you can use the manifold, just don't use the obd0 map sensor on the firewall, as obd1 place the map sensors on the throttle body.

Only thing you may want to check to see if the IAVC has the same plug as your does, that might be the only difference, I'v heard of some IACV using 3 pins and some having only 2. That is easy to check to see if they are the same plug though.

It will work with your ECU as far as sensors go. Keep the OBD1 TB with the OBD1 Intake manifold together. The throttle bodies use different idling mechanisms. The OBD0 TB uses vacuum from the intake manifold (the obd1 manifold does not have a nipple for this), while the OBD1 uses FITV via the cooling system.

You may need to change the water pipe between the water pump and thermostat housing. Else you need to get a T fitting so that you can feed the OBD1 throttle body so that it idles right.

Whats nice about the OBD1 manifold is that purge solenoid is mounted on the intake manifold rather then the firewall. FYI, not all OBD1 throttle bodies have the MAP sensor mounted on it. Some 92 and early 93's have it mounted on the firewall. So don't worry if yours doesn't have a mount on it. Just look for the FITV under the throttle body and you'll know its OBD1.

thanks for the info guys, I know its all OBD1 and the only difference is that the evap purge solenoid used a different connecter (which I already have) so I just need to re-pin it..

LightWeight.. I havent heard of any problems with the water hoses.. but I guess I will find out.

Thansk again,

-Chris

you dont even need the purge solenoid. ive never had a problem with the water pipe either but you never know. also if the injectors are obd1 you need to get rid of the resistor box or just swap in your obd0 ones.

Duh! I JUST noted that your talking about a DOHC motor. Disregard my facts! I'm stuck in single cam mode right now. I put a SOHC OBD1 head/IM/TB on a nonOBD block and had the water pipe issue.

Since you are going to the Ref, I'm assuming you are trying to pass as a B16A3(Del Sol OBD1). Will they flag you for having the resistor box since the Del Sol didn't use one? And don't you need the OBD1 ECU (p30) to pass?

I'm not a ref/bar expert by an means, but maybe you know something I'm missing. I'll try for to bar my ride one day and could use the knowledge/info.

haha no worries man, and actually all people I talked to passed with OBD0 injectors and the resistor box, but we will see how it goes (I had the same question )

I have the B16a3 block but everything else was kept OBD0 (i guess the previous owner didnt want to deal with it)

yea I have the P30 but I have yet to put it in due to lack of jumper harness

thanks for the info though.. much appreciated
