92 ACCORD Fuel Question
I got a 92 accord and it has the stock f22a6 with only the cold air intake right now. i was wondering if i could use premium fuel if that would improve my performance and would that be good for the engine? thanks for the help everyone!
i read the thread on fuels... here is my question..... i am one of those in the camp who claims that high octane is better..... for the record i now drive a 5th gen accord wagon. according to the owners manual and whatnot the car calls for 86 or higher.... up until feb 2002 when i bought this car i had a 98 gs-r that needed premium.... only premium..... the question is.... what is it about the certain engines that requre high octane while others like my non-vtec f22 does not?

I am a fan of higher octane. I have used both low and high and have not only found a slight increase in performance but also and increase in fuel mileage. Yes, thats right, an increase in fuel mileage. I couldn't believe it myself. An extra 20-30 miles per tank! Doesn't seem like a lot, but in the long run it should even out the additional cost of the premium fuel. Try it out and let me know what you think.

plus the GSR's have that knock sensor. so that helps them.. but those who have it disabled because of chipping or ecu swapping. must run high octaine... i say go regular. not like your getting tens or HP out of it.
87 works just fine in the car, you won't get any sort of performance gain by using 93. It may seem faster but that is all mental, or it may seem faster because you've lost a bit more weight in your wallet
bottom line is that it's a waste of money to put higher octane fuel in a car that calls for 86 octane from the factory, if it needed higher octane fuel i'm sure it would say so in the owners manual.

i own a 91 f22a1 and i noticed that when i switched to premium it didnt knock/ping as much. in the chiltons manual it talks about how honda designed the motor for use with 91 or better, but honda says 87 i guess it depends on what you read.

Gen4-5Door: I agree with also.I use premium in all of my accords ..not because I can afford it but for the many benefits. When I first got my latest addition to my Accord stable it knocked and pinged under acceleration. My first tank I filled with premium and all were gone. I use it in my 94 because before I even start the car I crack open the nitrous tank. I just got 380 miles on a tank of premium. It's just not worth it to skimp on something as important as fuel.
I'm sure most of you use premium fluids such as oil and tranny fluid and wouldn't even think about putting some cheap *** oil in your car.I would even venture to guess that most use premium car care products like wax to make your baby shine. Why use cheap gas.I'll shut up now because we've already had this debate and there will always be two sides to it.
I wouldn't use less than 89 on any car, since it is a nice security measure in hot weather. However, my ECU likes to run lean, so I have no choice but to use premium.
