Default Help! SRS light came on, dealer wants $1050

My 2000 EX Accord SRS light came on. The dealer said they did a hard code reset, but the light came right back on. They said the airbag control unit need replacing. (Code was 1662 I believe). Btw, the car has never been in an accident and has well under 100k miles on it.

What are my options? Does one module control both the side and front airbags?

I called Honda for goodwill, but was declined.

I actually read somewhere that the airbags have a life expectancy of around 10 years.

If they reset the code themselves and it immediately came back on then you DO most likely have a problem. I would ask to watch them reset in person (to verify they're actually resetting it) and then get the exact part number and eBay the control unit - don't quote me but I do not believe it needs to be coded to the car. Just swapped out without power running.

Thanks MuffinMan,
Is it something that a DIYer could do? I know where the airbag ecu is located. I was planning on purchasing a Helms manual.

Before I start with this, I might just try resetting it myself, I know there is a procedure located somewhere here to do it.

Yeah the Accord FAQ has a SRS reset for aftermarket wheels I wrote. I'm unsure if it works on your newer year car however. Assuming the module doesn't have to be reprogrammed then yeah you can swap yourself.
