2000 Odyssey - Brakes
First post, if this topic is already listed somewhere, my apologies. Please tell me the link.
I've got a 2000 Odyssey with 192,000 miles. Last brake job (by dealer) was 65,000 miles ago. The pads need replacing but I thought I would also put on new rotors and new wheel bearings (thoughts on these shortly).
Parts from the local store will run roughly $265. Dealer tells me the entire job will be $1,097.
So, I'm doing it my self.
I'm not a mechanic (nor claim to be knowledgable with cars), but have done about 4 brake jobs successfully in the past (with Chevy's and Fords). But here are my Honda specific questions:
So, what are the tricks to removing the rotors (if there are any)? What are the tricks to removing the wheel bearings (I don't have access to a press)?
My reasons for the new rotors and bearings. Basically, it's 192,000 miles and I've never had either completed, so I figure it's time. I haven't measured the thickness of the rotors, so I'm not even sure if they need replacing. And there is no noise to indicate bearing issues. But......................
There is also a strange vibration in the steering wheel that the dealer can't diagnose (tells me it's because my car has 192,000 miles) and I figure maybe the rotors might be slightly warped or the bearings are shot. I figure if I complete this, then I can at least eliminate this from the possible causes or fix the problem.
(And I've had all four wheels balanced twice, suspension alligned, rotated tires twice, and had Honda look at the suspension twice. They can find nothing wrong).
Thanks,
Jelly1

if the rotors are warped then you will feel it only when you brake.
I wouldnt suggest replacing anything unless its needed. That can lead to costly and unnecessary repairs. If you need your brakes done have the dealer or an autoshop measure the rotors to see if they can be cut or see if they are warped. If wheel bearings are bad YOU WILL HEAR THEM!.
If you just wanna throw your money out there and see what happens let me know cause ill gladly catch it.
