I've done a little reading around, and it seems that stage 2 cams help d17s alot.. especially when combined with a good tune like kpro.
Can anybody attest to this?
Oh also, I've heard gas mileage will actually increase as long as you stay out of vtec. Is this also true?

stage II cams work really well, as do stage I's. Between the Mid-Atlantic crew, we all have had everyone run stage I to stage III crower cams. IMO, if youre going to get a cam, either get a stage I or stage III.

why stage I or stage III? Stage one doesn't seem like it would do much, and stage III seems like it needs too many supporting mods just to fit/work.
How much power do these crower cams put out over stock? Can you attest to getting better gas mileage w/ the cam?

Curious G why stage 3? Bombermans' thread he said how there isnt enough static or compression in the d17 stock to fully utilize the stage 3 unless you build up the motor for it? But he did say stage 2 was very useful. Just wondering.
ive read its basically pointless if you are just putting a stage 2 cam in. unless other internals go along with it and your are building for boost or something. honestly its a waste of your time if you wont build it.
I'd love to see the 160whp claim's dyno sheet. I'd say the realm of possibility is up to 125 or so whp. It just seems like a lot of money, for very little result.

Cams are 400$ and less, and k-pro is what.. 1000? Ya, thats a lot of money for not a lot of power. But it would definitely be really sleeper and have lots of pep!
As far as dyno sheets, I haven't seen any yet. Just going by ear.

I don't know about "sleeper" considering it's still not enough power to really turn heads, but it would have slightly more "pep" than stock.
I'm a big supporter of D series motors...as long as you boost them. I don't know why people insist on spending so much money going NA and getting minimal results at best. If you like NA, swap a K or sell the car and get something with better potential. If you must build a D, do it and boost it. I personally wouldnt have it any other way. I've given 'fast' cars a run for their money with my current setup, and I have been able to retain a/c, p/s and decent fuel economy. I personally love my stage 2 crower BOOST cam. But I suppose if you want to get more 'pep' feel free to dump about 2 grand into a kpro, cam and valve springs/retainers. Either way, once you step into stage 2, you'll start to need supporting mods like exhaust work, fuel system upgrades...by the time you're done, you've pretty much put a turbo setup together, minus the turbo.
