Painting a Del Sol - Advice Wanted
I recently picked up a Del Sol that put me back into the Honda
world. It's Captiva Blue and although I've given it since late April
to grow on me, I don't think I can deal with it. My last Del Sol
was black and personally, I just think they look better like that.
Now, I've sprayed a couple cars before with good results. But
these cars were very easy jobs. A CRX (which is basically a
straight line back and a hood) and an '89 Sentra Sport Coupe.
The Del Sol has the rear window pillars, a big flat trunk and lots
of rubber seals to deal with.
Parting the car would make everything really easy but I'm
shooting for consistency. The lights, rockers and all the other
usuals will be coming off. I don't want to tear anything off that
I'd have to replace because I'm not rich these days.
So here are my questions -
- If I'm shooting with black, will parting stuff have an effect on
the consistency and shade?
- What else do you advise me to remove?
- What is the best way to really get at the door jambs
(other car's doors were removed prior to paint)
- How should I tackle the rubber window molding along the doors?
Should I remove it or meticulously tape it?
- Should I remove the trunk? I want to get at the trunk jambs
as well.
- How about the inside of the rear window pillars? Remove or
paint where they stand?
It would be cool if any DIYers chimed in. I'd appreciate it. I have
lots of little dents to fix, cracks in bumpers that I'm working
on and the usual so this won't be tomorrow. But I want to
be prepared as a **** because I love this car and want to
do it proper.
