Default Buying an EF, turbo FMU?

well, im pretty sure im gonna buy this 91 EF from the guy down the street..its a stock 1.5 auto, HOWEVER he has had 3 efs now, and is willing to give and help me install all i need to do a 5speed conversion for $1k.

BUT

i can also buy a JDM ZC motor from his wrecked "baby" that has a GearSPeed USA rebuilt 5 speed for $800 which i am almost certain im gonna do as hell help me install and has everything for it...tells me it was a beast to drive and swears the 138hp they are rated at feels wrong...but he said it could of been his i/h/e setup..

however though, i had planned on doin a small simple turbo setup-depending on how i feel about the ZC after its in...

i know about turbos and how everything works, and plan on goin with a DIY method...im gonna go typical with the HF mani and adaptors with a t25 or possibly t28 from a s14 240sx...

but im not too sure about the tuning...

what can i do as far as tuning it myself with no dyno, or very little dyno time...there is a local dyno to me, but no tuners for this...unless i go searchin through all the people driving something similar....

so far ive thought

old hondata
s afc
chrome?

ill be using this with a wide band to avoid any issues and getting the best tune possible..

is there a simpler more effective solution?

can i use an old hondata, load a base map, apply my injectors, turbo trim/size/boost and poof! i have a good reliable tune?

will i have to do any tricks as far as retarding timing or anything using the dizzy?

there is a hondata tuner in kansas city,ks which would be a 3hr drive...but i would like the experience of do this tune myself...as i dont think it should be too difficult with only doing around 8lbs...

ive looked at chrome tuning guides, and it seems VERY easy too...

im just lookin for alittle advice guys, thanks though and im so psyched for bein back in a honda...the ford expedition was KILLIN me...

There is no such thing as "the best tune possible" without a dyno.

The dyno closest to me is over a 3 hour drive, and you better believe everyone either trailers or drives their cars over to get a tune.

If you want this thing to be reliable and make at least half decent numbers, you need a dyno tune.

well if thats the case ill just go with a hondata S200...thats all i would need right? i wont have to supply the tuner with a wide band air/fuel or anything will i?

will the hondata have a base map to get me to the dyno?

It will be cheaper and easier and you will have more options for boost if you jsut go with the s300 instead.

If it's a good tuner, they will have almost all of the supplies you need. I'm not familiar with the hondata engine management, you could always call the tuner and ask them the best way to get the car there. Worst case scenario, rent a car dolley and borrow a friends truck.

Best thing is to find the tuner you want to do your car and ask them what you need. Find out if they can tune your specific ECU because not all tuners do all systems.

honestly i think i might hold off on the turbo longer than i thought, this way i can address other things first and take my time to do this right..

its gonna be great though, the cars an auto, and im getting it for $900

then the guy has a JDM DOHC ZC with I/H/E, pulleys and a Gearspeed Rebuilt 5 speed with a 4.11 final drive and i think LSD...

getting that motor for 800 and were gonna install it..

thinking, im gonna get a set of SI wheels, a nice set of shocks and springs/coilovers, front rotors, and integra rear end conversion and i should be set..

hes helping me do all this too for free and its only a few houses down the block..

im so psyched....the only issues is the color, and like 50cent sized rust in the rear wells...im trying to figure out how i can address this in the most affordable fashion..

thinkin i want to go flat black or god help me, champion white, redo all the moldings in black, black wheels and black roof...

man i cant stop thinkin about this car. my main problem ive been finding is aftermarket parts for the ZC...i was lookin for cams but havent had any luck...
