Will this head unit fit my car? Install cost?
I found an Alpine CDM-7871 stereo laying in my garage from when my brother took it out of a car he sold. I was wondering if this would fit in my 2000 Honda Civic EX Sedan, and if it would work with my subwoofers hooked up to a Bazooka ELA100.2 amp...
I don't really know much about this, so I was also wondering how much a professional install would cost somewhere like Best Buy for all of this? Thanks!

Does that include doing the subwoofers AND the head unit? And do you think Best Buy would be comparable? Guess I'll call them tomorrow just to be sure.
Yes it will fit.
Yes you can run your sub off it, [has sub output].

Install it yourself, it's not that hard.

You can pick up a Metra kit and harness adapter at any car audio shop, [Metra dealer] or online.
You can even install it without the kit, [iso mount] all that is needed is 4x8mm machine screws, [get them at the car audio shops] and a small rat tail file to "reposition" the mounting holes a little, [to center HU in opening] and you get to keep the stock pocket.
Feel free to PM me if you have questions. 94

Well if you don't know what you doing and no understanding or knowleges about install stereo then take it to a shop. You don't have to go at Best Buy to install it. There many auido shops out there can do this for decent price. Just go around and compare prices and see you can afford.
It not hard to install a h/u but be careful not mess up the wiring harness because it can become a disaster if not connect correctly.

i work at bestbuy. best buy charges 55 bucks for labor.
21.99 for harness and 19.99 for dash kits.
its better off install yourself.
normally if you still have the factory harness behind the radio, you can buy a wire harness from ebay for around 5 bucks and a dash kit (if needed) for about 10 bucks.
just match the wire colors from the wire harness you buy and the deck side harness.
as for the sub, you will need the diagram from bazooka. i believe bazooka tubes are amplified and comes with a type of harness connected to it.
get yourself a multimeter and learn how to use it if you are not familiar with wiring. a multimeter will help you with any type of electrical work that you will need to do in the future.

Does look like I'm going to be installing it all myself. I think I'll start with the CD player/head unit first, and then decide if I want to do the sub woofer right now. Heres the installation kit & harness I plan on using, I was told they should work:

Okay, I received all the pieces I need today. The metra install kit looks like it should fit, and the wiring harness looks good too. I'm looking at wiring diagrams etc. to start installing within a day or two, and I'm a bit confused. My head unit, the Alpine CDM-7871, has a blue line for the remote turn-on lead. It also has a switched power lead, which is red. These are the only two related to turn-on, and so I'm confused about where my amp's remote turn-on lead goes. Can I have only the head unit's red line hooked up, and use the blue remote turn-on for the amp?
Sorry if that is confusing to read, tell me if you need some clarification and I can try. Thanks

The blue, [power ant. control] and blue/white, [amp turn on] leads are outputs and are not needed unless you have a power or amplified ant. or are installing an amp(s). all the rest of the leads should be color for color from Alpine harness to the adapter harness.
If the adapter harness has a blue lead connect the Alpines blue lead to it, it will not hurt anything if you do not have a power or amplified ant. 94

Okay, so I can hook up the red line I talked about to control the head unit's power, and use the blue line I talked about to hook up the amp?
And I just cut out the pieces necessary of the Metra install kit, and.. the head unit has gaps when placed in the hole. It has about half an inch horizontally and vertically, and the kit came with no other pieces to fill gaps. Am I doing something wrong? Is the head unit not standard DIN size, since the kit said it would fit any DIN size head units? Help! thanks.

Ugh, I think I'm missing the trim ring. Brother must not have kept it and metra kits don't come with one, so I'm going to have to find one online. Unless this isn't my problem?
Edit: also, the metra instructions say to fold over metal tabs to keep the stereo in the kit.. I see no metal tabs to fold, or anything to keep it in.
Hopefully someone can answer all these, I'd like to install tomorrow!
