Default Which tranny is better LS,GSR,ITR,or b16 (ls-vtec)

I have an LS vtec build, b16 head going towards 300whp daily driving, I've been trying to figure out which tranny to go with.... which ever one i decide to go with its going to be equipped with an LSD.

LS-obx/quaife LSD
GSR obx/quaife LSD
ITR comes with LSD
b16 obx/quaife LSD

So far I heard that the b16 and itr suck for turbo, but I'd like to hear it from people with experience with the trannys.

This exact thread appears about once a week, if not more.

For 300whp you can definately use B16/ITR gearing effectively, 400+ is a real spin fest.

How high are you going to rev it? for drag racing? highway driving? what size tires?

Ls trans are an all around good trans. I have used a few different ones. The LS has always yeilded the same ET's as the rest. Esp if your hitting 5th gear in the 1/4

mainly hwy some drag I was leaning toward the LS too but i wasnt sure if it would be the best. I do alot of spirited driving.

this setup is going on an 00 dx civic coupe runing on 16x7 wheel and 215/40 falken azenis tires

thanks to the guys that actually suggested which tranny to use. I searched every page in this thread and the faq and did not find anything on trannies. it would help if a link was posted here or a sticky was made in the forced induction thread just for the trannies.... I apologize to the people who are frustrated in seeing these questions all the time, but like I said if I had found the thread I wouldve never asked.... It would help if instead of typing "search.. this has been discussed many times, and just recently might I add." you would write for example "gsr tranny becuase.." it takes the same amount time and effort.

This is very simple, if you can put the power to the ground the B16 will accelerate the car the fastest, followed by the GSR and then the LS......

Downsides are the B16 is not exactly highway friendly as far as RPM goes, the B16 WILL BLAZE the tires much easier than an LS tranny due to the higher torque multiplication in 2nd gear and up...... the GSR is a happy medium.

You should have ignored that guy who said that. If someone said the ITR/B16 tranny for your setup is the suck, they don't know what they are talking about.

LS trans are NOT good all around trans. The best all around mission is the GSR tranny. For 300whp, the ITR/B16 setup is the best. It will accelerate the quickest when you have a proper suspension/boost controller setup. If your car had the same ET with the LS, GSR and ITR, your suspension/boost controller setup sucks. Not the ITR tranny.

If the suspension setup is right and the boost controller is dialed in, the ITR tranny will accelerate the quickest on this setup. If wheel spin becomes an issues due to tires/suspension/boost controller, get the GSR tranny.

If you run the ITR mission, get the LS 5th gears for the highway if you are worried about it.

Every week there is a thread about what mission to run. First few guys say get the LS y0, stay in boost mad long time. Then goes to GSR all around and then those that actually dialed in an ITR/B16 mission chime in and say our crap about acceleration and torque multiplier and other non-sense. But for what it is worth, my street car went 10s on street tires and 10.10@152 on my ITR mission setup.

Fixed

I had back to back passes ls and gsr and both yeilded about same ET and MPH. The LS ended up being a little faster.

Joe Simpson said (real world data) the same thing 3 years ago.

I like the ls trannys at any power level. ESP if you have a low Rev limiter. 5th gear isent a gear you want to be shifting to in the 1/4.

uickest on this setup. If wheel spin becomes an issues due to tires/suspension/boost controller, get the GSR tranny.
1.7 60's on BFG DR 11.001@135 ls tranny the GSR Tranny went 11.09@134. It was very close to 9300RPM on the 225's.
This was at 500whp.

I Dont think my setup sucked to bad? I ran multiple events for in power street and quilified top 4 most of the time?

you went faster with the LS because you spun less, if the car had slicks the GSR tranny would of went faster.

I had an LS tranny in my car after I was tuned, the bitch would dead hook 3rd gear with 205/50/15 BFG's, def cant do that with my B16 gearing.

I had an LS in my car years ago when I was making 401, on the highway 3rd gear was alot of fun. put a GSR in it after I shredded the LS, you couldnt pay me to go back to the LS. picked up 3/4 of a second at the track and so much quicker on the rev, makes coming back into boost that much quicker.

my buddy runs ITR in his car, and he swears by it too, i know one thing he never falls out of boost at the track...

You were spinning. Get the car to hook better and the GSR beats it every time. It is simple math and proven data that the LS should not be the faster tranny.
