Mainshaft bearing does go out. If you're comfortable taking the trans apart, I'd look at the gears and synchros, also check the filter/magnet in the tranny for any signs of wear.

ISB and seal should be replaced in any used 15YR+ Honda tranny. DO IT.

Rear main seal -- not the transmission but do it while it's out.

Yeah, you gotta take the trans apart to do the bearings. If you have any hesitations, get someone or pay someone who knows what they're doing to do it, it will pay off in the long run.

I'm not 100% sure on the d series trannys, but there should be a magnet near the bottom of the trans that collects the metal particles and this can only be accessed by taking the trans apart.

does anyone know if the main shaft bearings are the same in all D series tranny? EX, Si, DX, and CX... I bought a USED Trany which was supposed to be a 97 EX for my civic DX.. and now the main shaft bearings are making noises when the clutch is disenaged/OFF pedal.. i did all the bearing except the mains.. and i just found out its not an 97 tranny its s20/a0000 out of a 92-95 dx or cx.

Aside from seals and throwout bearings, there's nothing I would do. Just throw it in, if you find anything is bad, take it uot and fix or replace it.

Once you take out a tranny, its easier to do a second time. But the effort to crack it open for the first time and replacing everything just isn't worth it for the slight potential of something wrong withourt even testing it.

Not sure which but some have a 35mm bearing and some have a 40mm bearing believe it to be on the outputshaft, but I am not %100.

call standardtransmission.com get a rebuild kit (bearings , seals , synchro sleeves)

181.61 shipped 2 day air.

then go to tranny shop , install for 150-250 depending on their rates.

then have fun with your rebuilt tranny
