I've looked around, and found DIYs for removing the entire dash, but hope it won't be necessary? My girlfriend is selling her Civic, and wanted to replace this piece that was broken when someone tried to steal her radio a few years ago.



The piece that surrounds the radio and climate control, and goes all the way over the steering wheel and has the hazard switch behind it on the other side. Does anyone know if there's a way to do this without taking half the interior apart?

 

theres only one way! remove the dash screws and take apart the dash..... its really not as bad as you think it is

 

yea the screws are behind the dash area, u have to remove it...

 

Take the dash out, the screws are impossible to remove without doing so.

IMO, it's more of a pain in the a$$ to remove the trim panel once the dash is out than the actual removal of the dash itself!!

If all I'm doing is swapping that trim piece, is it necessary to remove the steering wheel/passenger side airbag harness plug? I'd rather not mess with the SRS stuff if it's not necessary.

 

You don't need to take the wheel off to take the dash off. All you need to do is loosen the bracket under the knee bolster that holds the steering column up so that the column will lower down onto the seat. This is so the dash will clear the wheel and the turnsignal/wiper stalks without breaking them off. You'll want the dash completely off to remove that bezel, or you'll be in for a really frustrating experience. Trust me.
