Go check out the search sticky and start there.
Once you read read read...you"ll narrow your searches down to relavent information.
How ever it will still require you to READ! to find your answer.
Instead of asking a question that has been asked many many times.
We highly encourage that you search search and search again.

i DID search some but all the info i came up with was for drag racing. since i am roadracing it does not answer my questions. so lets try again will a light flywheel affect down shifting.

hmmm.. I just checked and, theres one topic that isnt covered too often.
I dont use a lightened flywheel. Bone stock!
I have an ACT heavy duty clutch for racing and stock flywheel.
IMO Dont see any need in using something lighter there is no real gain in using a lighter one except weight.
but thats only my .02

There are lots of threads "google" on the pros and cons.

Get a lighter one. You can shift faster and smoother.

The transient response is better with a lighter flywheel. I like them alot, though the car will slow more quickly when engine braking (something I like, not everyone's cup of tea).

Get a light weight flywheel. The more weight you can get out of the rotating assembly of the engine means less power lost in trying to turn the engine. When I changed to a light flywheel I gained horsepower at the wheels. Not to mention it I lost 20lb of weight out of the car.

I run the ACT race flywheel with OEM stock pressure plate and clutch disk.

I had an act x-act streetlite (~12lbs) on my old d16y8. Throttle response was a tad better. Noticeable improvement over the stock 18lb unit. I don't know that I would recommend dropping the tranny *SOLELY* to do the flywheel. However if you already have to get in the tranny, then I would definitely recommend a lightweight flywheel.

I have two DA Integras with stock motors except one has a light flywheel - it feels much more responsive (and it's actually faster, but not by much) but I much prefer the heavy flywheel for daily driving.

it makes a difference...

If you are allowed to do it do it.

Especially when you are looking at a 18-20lbs stock flywheel, and a 7lbs lightweight flywheel.

And for the money the weight saves is pretty dang good..

You may not have noticed it (butt dyno is horribly inaccurate) , But I have proven it on a dyno (like I do to most of the modifications I do). I'll see if i can find my graphs
