my lsvtec smokes when vtec engages
was wondering what could be wrong, what i see from my rear view mirror looks like white smoke coming out of my exhaust when the vtec hits, just wonder if it could be the valve seals, any input will be appreciated thanks...
White=water, very bad, headgasket or crack letting water into the combustion chamber
Black=gas, running rich
Blue=oil, rings or seals

From some of the research that I've done, that is a typical part of an ls-v though. That is why I didn't go with it.

thanks thats probably why i gotta put coolant like every 2 weeks, i didnt know where it went that makes sense, also gotta take out that block guard... appreciate it
If you a needing to add coolant you will soon have a big problem.
Did you use a new head gasket and head bolts? Also when the head and block went back together did you clean them with acetone and make sure that are flat?

I also started noticing that my car is also blowing some smoke out my exhaust when vtec engages. Kinda hard to tell if its white, black or blue . But I dont have problem with my coolant going low, more like my oil goes low, but I have that common oil leak under the vtec solonoid also. The car feels great though, no power loss or anything. Hope its not something major ><
smoke during vtec is normal. almost 20years ago i bought brand new 92 gsr. and it smoked little white grayish smoke at high rpm. so it's normal. sold it in 95. now i have two 92 gsr, i bought one last year and 2011.
No it's not normal. None of the VTEC Hondas I have ever owned smoked. Good job in bumping up an old thread.
it does smoke litttle. if it continuosly smoke during vtec, there's sometiming wrong w ur engine, valve stem seal or piston ring. but slight smoke during vtec is normal! and that was from brand new 92gsr. i first noticed slight smoke when buddy of mine was following me with his 92civic ex. and that was in 93, my gsr had barely had 5000mi on it. you can tell a vtec smoke and smoke from a bad engine. also u can't really tell by urself if its smoking. someone has to follow you.
