EF on rollerskates..
Bought into a project car. 88 hatch with a B16 swap. The guy put a traction bar on the front and dropped it with tokico illuminas and eibach sportlines (black ones?)
it's got 16" Rota C8's and RS-2 215/45/16's that rub everywhere.
Feels like it has no suspension on the front end at all. I think maybe the springs are too heavy or too short to get any play, it'll hit a bump in the road and skate across the highway.
What should I do? Hasport makes some springs exclusively for an EF with a B16 swap, right? Should I go with some 195/15's on steelies or something? I gotta daily drive this car. It looks nice with the 16"s and 215s but it's just not safe driving it like this.

Can you link me to the Skunks people use? The Illuminas on the front were dead, I had some brand new no-name gabriels sitting around for a 4 door some guy ended up not wanting and put them on the front. Helped a little, springs are the problem I think.
Nope, they aren't cut. With the spring on the strut with the top mount pulled down the spring doesnt compress at all, it's just a little tighter. I'm thinking these aren't the right springs for the car or something, seems like they aren't tall enough to get any action.
TBH I'd prefer the suspension to be all stock with some steelies at this point.

I ran stock springs and struts on my gsr swaped si. Then I switched to h&r springs and kyb struts rode good still. I ran 205/50/15's on both set ups. I had a friend with a b20 crx and he ran 215/50/15s on skunk2 coilovers and had no problems. I'd say your strut is blown or your springs are shot.

When I bought the car it had cheap ebay lowering coilovers on it and they came with those dinky little retarded plastic couplers to adjust the ride height. Is the Skunk2 stuff better quality? It rode worse on the adjustable ebay coilovers than the black Sportlines I have on it now.
How much could the 215/45/16's affect it all? I don't think it's been aligned since he did all the swapping, so maybe that would help some too. No P/S also doesn't help my situation.

something must be out of wack with your front end. has it been alligned? bottoming out and rubbing tires sounds like you're too low are you getting bumpsteer?
wait i have the same setup you should'nt be too low, do you have a picture?

oh and the Bseries engines its not too much of a difference no more then 50 pounds. im not too sure how much it is exactly. but your springs should be able to withstand a b16.
IMO your rim and tire combo is just too big

Thanks.
JDM B16
stock internals and head
AEBS intake
Hytech Replica header
2.5" full exhaust
Progress rear sway
Trac bar
battery relocated to box in hatch
Rear teggy disc
GSR console and armrest, RSX seats, SI dash and cluster
other random crap
It's a fun car, not bad for $2000. Hopefully I can get it riding right before it tears itself up bouncing all over the place.

well you most likely wont mess anything other then your tires. maybe.. MAYBE bend some of the suspension parts. but you'll be good if you try avoiding as many big pot holes as you can

In total diamater, yes. Wouldn't the 15" tire have much more give though? A thicker sidewall would make for a more cushy ride, right?
I understood what he was saying as "The 16" wheel is too rigid for such a small car."
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
The tire rubbing isn't all that bad, really. It's just the fact that the front end seems solid and the slightest bump in the road causes the car to wheel hop into the next lane.

alright i see.
that could be one of many things.
even your tire pressure. if its too high. when you hit a bump it'll feel like you have rocks for wheels.
check your manufacturer spec. on your door for air pressure. dont go by what it says on the tire. check that out and see what happens.
other then that. im thinking that your struts are blown.
