HT need help on my ED7
ok guys so here is my problem, I just got my car from the shop last tuesday and here are the things that got done.
New engine d16a6 from 1997 civic ex
new axle
new clutch
new timing belt
new water pump
new dizzy
and for some reason it gives me a CEL and the mechanic told me its the dizzy it has to continuity on one of the plug on the dizzy and that made me not pass my smog. Then the mechanic fixed it and went to smog and my car passed but he told me when ever he drives it around the CEL goes back and forth and i think its from the plug that doesnt have continuity.
so when i drive it my car feels like a noob trying to drive a stick it makes that bouncy thingy i dont know how to explain it but i am pretty sure you guys get what i am saying it always happen on 3rd gear or at 25-35 mph. the other problem is that i hear a whining sound on my tranny when i am driving it its usually at 2nd all the way to 4th gear but sometimes it depends on my speed, is the whining sound normal or not normal. Again i just got my car from the shop so idk whats going on someone plz help me.

yep ^
also, if you received an engine from a 97 civic then the mechanic did not install a d16a6. if it is an engine from that year civic the valve cover will look different (spark plug holes nearest the exhaust manifold) and the engine code will be d16y#. if it is a d16a6, and i imagine thats what he put back in there, then its from an 88-91 civic or crx.

well, you have a block from an 88-91 civic/crx si, and a head from a 96-00 civic. you're still obd0 so pull back the carpet on the passenger's side foot panel, flip your ignition to "on" position and count the number of lights the ecu throws. once, you have your code(s) look them up to see what your problems are and go from there.

i payed 550 for the whole engine but they mechanic gave it to me for 500 how much usually d16a6 cost?
it's hard to tell what your problem is if you don't check the codes.
d16a6 block only came in the 88-91 civic/crx si models, the 92-95 civics have d16z#, 96-00 civics have d16y#.
as far as your transmission, sounds like your intermediate shaft bearing could be wearing out.

ok i c is this a bad combination? and for the intermediate shaft bearing do you have to open the tranny just to get it fix and can you provide me a picture of intermediate shaft. sorry for the noob i haven't had that problem since i had this car so i dont know what it looks like.
kk thanks
Actually if that head is a y8 head it will raise the compression and if he used the y8 head gasket it will raise it a tad bits more tell me what gasket and what the head code is and ill tell you how much compression also how much has been shaved off the deck of the head

oh and another question is that, the sound of bad throw out bearing is the screatching sound and if you step on the clutch it goes off and if you let go of the clutch you will hear it again right.
9.72:1 should be the compression with a stock a6 with the y7 head and yes your right I did not look at the picture close enought to notice no vtec lol and yes that is the throw out bearing
lol i was going to be happy when found out that they put vtec head on my car ahahha but yeah thanks for the help tho.
i found out the reason why my tranny is making that noise, the mechanic forgot to put transmission fluid on my car so that problem is fix but 1 more problem which is the back firing problem and i think that my engine bogs down when im driving it really slow it feels like she doesnt want to be driven slow whats the problem here and i cant fine the code for CEL because it only shows up when i drive but when its park its not showing up i remember my mechanic is saying that the ECM on my dizzy has no continuity this thing is really anoying any suggestion
The ECU stores all codes until either they are fixed or the neg battery terminal is removed for a little bit to reset the ECU. Even if the CEL comes on and then goes off, it still should have the code stored in the ECU.
I really hope your mechanic didn't screw up the trans by not putting any fluid in there.. that's a pretty stupid mistake he made.

guys one more question how would i know if the head is y7 or y8. cause i checked out my friends civic its says d16y8 so it means its vtec and the head looks exactly the same thing to my head so how would i know what kind of head is that, and also is it ok to run a d16a6 dizzy to a d16y7 or 8 head??
