Default Installing aftermarket radio, Do I really need the dash kit?

I have a 1995 Acura Integra, It looks like a simple remove & replace kind of deal since the stock radio already have the lower pocket. All you have to do is put a new radio in right?

Do I really have to spend $20 and buy the radio kit? I know I have to buy the radio harness though.

Here's a pic of the stock radio for reference.

No I asked whether you can install an aftermarket radio without getting the dash kit. Not whether buying a dash kit would make it look clean.

Hmmmm, is it me or is the opening a little bigger than a normal din unit? If you can get an aftermarket HU that fits the same slot and leaves no gaps on the trim panel..........don't bother.

If you're going to have gaps....pay the $20. Nothing makes a radio install look crap-er than gaps or it not fitting right.

If you don't have the dash kit or the cage around the unit it's gonna sit in there all sloppy since the aftermarket unit is usually just a hair smaller than the stock unit. So that means its gonna sit all crooked and come sliding out of there and nail you in the hand everytime you hit that maaad v-tak.

So will it work without the dash kit? Yea
Is it ghetto? HELLYEA
