Timing Belt rear cover for D series
I think I know the answer, but I wanted to get some supporting info. The D16A6 and D15B7 heads are the same exact casting. The two also use the same cam exact gear with the same index marks, but have different rear timing belt covers (the one with the arrow to help set the motor to TDC). I'm guessing this is because of the different cam. My question is, does the arrow on the cover index the corresponding cam such that the valves are closed on cylinder 1?
I have a b7 head and cam on my A6 block. I retained the rear back timing belt cover for the A6 head/cam. I think i should use the B7 cover to index the cam correctly.
If I keep the A6 cover and index the cam and slip the timing belt on with the crank gear at TDC, the lines will all be lined up. But the timing will be off because of the B7 cam. Can anybody support this?

Trying to figure out what you mean by 'rear back' cover.
Assuming you mean the lower cover, right?
Upper cover should be when doing cam timing so I'm lost in your post as you are talking a lot about the cam and not the crank.

Thanks for replying, I'm referring to the plastic cover behind the cam gear. It has the arrow that you line up to the marks on the cam gear.
OEM part number/desc:
11840-PM3-010 COVER, TIMING BELT BACK <-D16A6
11840-P01-020 COVER, TIMING BELT BACK <-D15B7
The B7 and A6 heads have a different part numbers for this piece. However, the cam gear is exactly the same. SO, I would assume that the two covers have the arrows in different places to index the cam since the cams are of course different. Does this sound about right?
If so, then I would need to get the cover that matches the cam to index the cam properly.

Ok after thinking about it over and over, i think I figured it out. First I should index the cam like a 1.5L motor since that is the cam I am on. No need to use the arrow(1.6s) on the cover since the timing marks on 1.5s line up with the surface of the head. However I am half a tooth off now, so this must be the opposite issue that the people with d15b7 blocks/head and a6 cams run into.
So im picking up an a6 cam. Mods please close

I pulled off the timing valve cover and the timing belt felt a little loose between the two cam gear
