Default crx idle problems

ok so i have a 91 crx with a ls/vtec swap. bottom end is built and top was ported and polished with the full internals. the other night i overheated pretty bad because my fan got loose and started bouncing off my radiator and it was leaking. i fixed the leak and got it filled now. not overheating anymore. but now when i start it it jumps to 5k then drops to 1k and back and forth from 1-4. i have never heard of anything like it. and everyone i ask has a blank look on their faces.

well either best case scenario the leak caused a air bubble to get lodged somewhere in the coolant system, or worst case the overheating caused the headgasket to go in which case you're getting a constant flow of compression gases being dumped into the coolant system. since it's not overheating at this point i would be lead to believe that its simply an air pocket. did you bleed the system well? let it run for awhile with the cap off and make sure the heater is on high. and also make sure you have a bit of coolant in the overflow tank.
