Default Body filler techniques

I took an autobody in highschool and I clearly remember the instructor saying that when using body filler the hardest thing to do is to imitate a strait line or anything with lines. the sad thing was we never got around to repairing things that involved seems or lines. Now 4 years later im Repairing a dent on my car getting ready to paint.

So my question is what are your guys secrets to using body filler to create a strait line??
**** is hard as f##k

sometimes it also helps to run tape on ur body line, then put some filler...then peel the tape and put it on the other side of the line and apply filler there too, kinda making a "fake" line then do the diagonal sanding

I have no idea what you're talking about imitating a line. If you're talking about creating an edge, I think the first thing you should be thinking about is how you can get the metal shaped better without having to make a line out of body filler. Second, if you have no way of fixing the metal, then I would use a hard flat block to follow the existing line.

Do you have a picture of what you're trying to fix?
