Default CRX fuel line and connector issue...looking for suggestions

My fuel pump recently stopped working due to the sock being clogged with rust so I decided to just replace the tank and everything. The problem is that in disconnecting the hard line that carries fuel to the motor I marred the tube nut because it was so rusty. I've already cut the hard line above the flare and tube nut since that part was also rusty but I'm still trying to figure out the best way to repair it.

Here is an image from the part diagrams illustrating the parts I'm dealing with.

Here's a pic of the tube nut on the cut off piece of hard line next to the female fitting it once connected to.

...and a pic of just the nut and line.

I was thinking it would be nice to make a barbed end on the hard line I cut so I could just fill in the missing hard line with a section of hose. The pic below shows an example of the barb I'm talking about.

Thanks in advance.

Compression fitting, a new piece of flared line and just use your old fitting on the line.

I hope I'm understanding you correctly, but I can't use the tube nut shown in the third pic since the flat edges have been rounded out.

Just grind the rounded edges down to make it flat on both sides enough to get a wrench to fit snugly.

DId you use a line wrench on it? Or did you use a regular wrench?

Yes, I actually did use a line wrench, or flare nut wrench, on it. That's what marred the nut faces but then I had to use one of those robo-wrenches to get the thing out. I'm really looking for a solution other than reusing that nut since I've already ruined it's original integrity as a 14mm tube nut (not that it was great to begin with being rusted). I have all new parts otherwise and would like to have a nice clean repair.

...any further suggestions?

I did some more internet searching and it looks like my best bet is to find that tube nut from a salvaged vehicle and use a compression fitting to repair the cut line which is essentially what was posted before, so thanks crx-si. I now see the barbed line idea wouldn't work, at least not without doubt, with the fuel pressure on it.

Yeah, I thought about going that route, but it'd take too much time to put it in given my circumstances.

Just in case anyone has the same issue: what I got was a steel 5/16 O.D. hard line with the flare already done from NAPA and a zinc plated steel compression fitting with a double sleeve system from McMaster Carr that's supposed to give a leak proof seal. NAPA carries a brass compression fitting but I'd rather stick to similar metals. Then I'll just go to my nearest junkyard and grab a non-rusty tube nut for the flared end.
