towing a trailer with a 4 banger
currently eyeing a used bikelug trailer for about half what it normally costs brand new.
bikelug trailer = 170lbs assembled
bike = 400lbs wet
-------------------
total 570lbs being towed
+ cargo of misc track items and camping gear = 75lbs
myself = 160lbs
-------------------
another 235lbs
the drive is about 327miles/7hrs one way. rough roads here and there but do-able if i go slow. anyway i can't help but be a little concerned about all the weight my rsx-s has to haul. god forbid something blows up or siezes up in the middle of the alaskan wilderness.
for those of you who have towed with a 4banger could i safely cruise along in 6th gear @ 55-60mph? or would i have to use 5th gear which i think would cause more wear/tear because of the higher revs?

What you'll need to pay attention to is your tongue weight. The overall weight should be no problem for your RSX. You might be close to that limit, since the tongue weight takes into account the maximum cargo capacity that your car can carry.
you will be fine. we started out dragging the crx with my 89 hatch. did fine up and down the east coast. just be careful of the conditions of roads, truck ruts will be your worst enemy.
and tongue weight can easily be changed on how the bike is put on the trailer. if the trailer is bouncing alot its tail heavy, so move the bike forward. if your constantly bottoming out the rear struts, try moving the bike back 6 inches.

changed my mind. too many frost heaves and rough roads i'd have to slow down on. would add a whole lot more time to and already long drive. and the long drive sucks lol. got a better idea and borrowed my folks van they haven't been using.
