I think my maintenance required light is on
Well it's not really a light, I have a 96 civic DX and my cluster is old looking and it simply says "maintenance required" and a little box is under it. This is what my cluster looks like. But my little box isnt green it's yellow.

Im worried because it could be a number of things.
-My car is at 89k miles and I heard at 90k you need to replace the timing belt.
-I recently took my old bumper and headlights off my car and had to cut a piece of my radiator support to fit the new bumper (99-00 conversion)
-When I was cutting my dremel bit broke off and a piece probably flew into my engine bay, im worried it could have damaged my engine, but the car is running fine.
What else could cause this all of a sudden? I recently changed my radiator fluid and oil too.
I also just installed a new deck, but I dont think that would have anything to do with it.

That light is caused my mileage, not because of a malfunction. Your suppose to follow it by dealership reccommendations. All you have to do is simply stick your key into the slot on the left and push, it will roll back over to green.
Oh, thanks alot man I was so worried! I bought the car from a guy on auto trader about 2 months ago, so I have no clue about the key thing.
Whenever it changes colors, your suppose to bring it into the dealership and they look at your mileage and do your "however many miles on the odometer tune up".
Basically, if you just keep your maintence up to date and do basic tune ups every now and again, you dont have to worry about anything.

you will get raped.
they will charge you 3.6 hours labor for a 90k which only takes 30 mins to do (i know i worked at a honda dealership)
then they will recommend a timing belt (which it probably does need, but is easy to do yourself)
then they will recommend brakes and rotors which is another 4 hours of labor which only takes 40 min to do.
so thats about 12 hours of labor for 4 hours of work @ 70 or more an hour
not including parts
It turns yellow at 7000 miles, and red at 7500 miles to remind you to change your oil. Like others said, you just reset it with the key. It serves no other function than as a 7500 mile counter.
