well ive searche and i found many threads about this but i am completely lost..i have a 98 civc..but is no cuphold lid on mines though wen i bought the car it is that supoose to be like that?ive seen so much thread saying u need the one wid the lid..but i dodnt recall mines having a lid..but my car is a 98..how do i install my cd player in the little console..?pics please..or guide me to a step by step thread or sumtin..i need help please

 

Your car should have come with a lid, Alot of people remove the lid cause it interferes with the operation of the headunit, Previous owner may have removed it.
Like my headunit is a motorized face and drops down below which leaves me with no choice then to leave it up top.

Youll need to remove the center console to gain access to the cupholder screws.
Then there is two screws that hold the Din in place, You dont NEED the metal cage that the CD player slides into. Just side your cd player into where the Din was and use the bracket that held the din in to secure the headunit, Id use shorter screws than the ones you took out for the din since you dont want to damage anything in your headunit.

From there just pull your harness down and plug everything in. Be sure to heatshrink and solder and connections.

 

so it pratically floats in the console?because the console seems pretty big...i wonder if they swapped my cupholders to the 00 model..how can u tell?

 

The 99-00 didnt come with a lid and the din is larger, Also the left side cup holder is smaller than the right side, Does your cup holder have a little slot in the middle for the lid to snap into?

The headunit will slide right in and youll use the mounting spot i talked about, you dont want to push your headunit in too far cause you wont be able to get the trim piece on your face.

ok sorry i just checked ryte now and i do have the 00 civic cupholder piece..so wat would i need..do i just need the cup holder part or the whole thing with the console?

 

Ah crap, I guess i didnt copy the link properly, Now that you know you have a 99-00 cup holder it doesnt matter. Youll need the whole Cupholder/din from a 96-98 civic. Theyre cheap and easy to come by.
