Car Won't Stay in 3'rd and 5th
I have a 2000 civic si
The car will not stay in 3rd or 5th gear. I will be driving in 3rd and within 20 seconds usually it will slowly start to pull it out until it pops out of gear. Same with 5th except 5th will usually last a minute or so.
I have taken this transmission out and the gears looked to be in working condition.
This was an automatic to manual conversion but everything is bolted where it should be. I have a BLOX short shifter.
I'm thinking (hoping) that my linkage is bent and causing this???
I have so far put in energy suspension motor inserts to stop shaking but that didn't fix anything except make 5th gear last longer unless I'm holding the gear in.
Any other ideas?

if you can gag the gas and have it pop out the mount are tight enough/motors rocking itself out of gear. If it just comes out no matter what then its probably the synros. I think if the linkage was bent it wouldnt stay in gear period
the gears will look fine, it's the synchros that are your problem.
are canadian SI's available in automatic? i don't know since they are basically a US civic EX.
unless of course the OP has an "EK Si coupe" thats really an EX or DX.

Sorry, I forgot to say it was an "SI clone." It was an automatic now it has a b16a which, obviously is manual.
I had a guy replace 2nd gear which was bad, and the differential was bad too. He said once replaced all gears were fine and syncros. The transmission SHOULD NOT be the problem. I'm just trying to find alternatives because I've replaced the transmission 3 times.

its the detents on the shift rails it should do it in first too, the springs holding the detent ***** are either broke or wore out from raping on the trans
2nd is fine
4th is fine
3rd and 5th work fine but i have to lightly hold it in gear or it will eventually light start to pull it out
its nothing like it was when i had a bad 2nd gear that popped out
plus the transmission was taken apart and changed
how long ago was the work done? any warranty on the work?
ah ok, well sorry to say it sounds like your synchros for 3rd and 5th are just about done for from what i gather. If you have access to and want to try something you can try another set of shift linkage and see if maybe yours is slightly bent. You can also try draining out your trans fluid (make sure to see if there is any metal or tell tale signs of damage in the fluid) and replacing it using GM Synchromesh. It may only band-aid it temporarily but the damage is already done.
i had metal filings in the fluid so i got a whole nother transmission and opened that up and it replaced a couple things in there. No metal shavings after that using Redline fluid.
um, why the hell are you going through 3 transmissions? time to find someone else to work on them for ya.
grab a used one, replace the synchros yourself, tranny work is a piece of cake if you are competent enough to swap the SI powertrain in and work without issues.

just a suggestion for future reference, the next time you have trans issues like this get carbon coated synchros from Gearspeed. i had them in my old trans when i rebuilt it and i MURDERED gears at 9000rpm and it shifted as smooth as a brand new tranny after 15000 or so miles of "spirited" driving.
honestly dude, gears and synchros are cheap, you can always make a frankenstein tranny, and like was suggested above, carbon coated synchros are badass
hopefully the transmission demons wont attack anymore lol
