Default Aviation Fuel 100LL anyone ever try it?

Met a guy at the track this weekend and he was running a 92 MR2 Turbo. Thing was moving pretty damn good down the track. low 11's.

But any way he said he was running on aviation fuel think he said Aggas 100LL or something like that. has anyone really tried this? he said he was paying 3.22 a gallon for the fuel from a local airstrip.

Any thoughts on this?

yes i used to run it in a old 468 bbc drag car i had running high tens. its cheap but it doesnt have proper lubricants as regular racing fuel be prepared to change the rings and its hard on valves.

It's just heavily leaded gas designed for high altitude use, the price seems pretty cheap.

I know for sure you could run 11's on pump gas with a good setup/tune. Sounds like the downsides outweigh the up.

My dad used to get some gas from the small airport near where I live way back in the day (over 20 years ago, atleast).

I could be way off on this, but I think aviation fuel is oxygenated. I know some guys that ran oxygenated fuel in their bikes and it worked well.

I guess if your looking to get cheap race gas it's ok..
But then again E85 would be a better choice...

I've always seen less power with avgas vs other racing fuels..

Hi, I think this is gonna be my first post up on this site... Hope it works.
Ok here it goes.
I work at the airport and I have to test two tanks each has AVGAS 100LL and after we are done testing it we are supposed to properly DISPOSE of the fuel. BUT if my tank is empty enough I will put it in my 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback which is completely stock engine.
My car is still running fine after about 50gallons of the stuff. The most I have ever put in the tank at any one time is 5gallos then topped it off with Premium Unleaded at the gas station.

ok let me help you out quick. I am an aviation techinican. DONT use this gas for your car. It will cause more damage than help to your car. The additives in this gas are meant for planes not cars. They will destroy the metals and rings of the car. The only benefit of avgas is that it has a higher flash point then regular gas. Once again don't use it.
