Re-covered my center armrest.
The beige cloth had gotten pretty sorry looking.
But I only had burgundy and black leather (~1.5mm thickness). Considering the two tone (black/beige) nature of the hard trim in my interior I went with the black leather.
It was a simple matter to remove the top cover assembly (just three screws) and then to remove the under-plate (three more screws)

I removed the cloth and then had to peel the rest off, literally. The south Florida heat can take its toll.

I used the cloth as a template and cut my leather accordingly. I used dabs of psychologically unstable glue here and there to hold the leather down, trimming away a piece here and there as necessary and gathered up the corners as best I could (again applying crazy glue to a fold/whatever as necessary) and once again attached the underplate.
Came out ok.
