Default Help a VW guy out?

Hey guys, this is my first post on HT, and I thought this would be the best place to post my question. I wasnt allowed to post in the Tuning section for some reason, so i was told to post here.

I live in Shreveport Louisiana and currently there arent any tuners that can tune my SEM. I use a company called 034EFI. They have a standalone engine management for mainly VW and Audi. They are based in California, and are widely popular on both coast, but not in the south. I cannot for the life of me find a tuner that is closer than 1000 miles away. I really dont want to pack up and drive to california or florida to get a tune, but its looking like thats my only option. I need some help finding a tuner for my car. I anticipated on having Javad Shadzi of 034 tune my car, or Chris Green of USP motorsports. But they are so far away, and the with the economy like it is, it just seems like its going to break my budget. But then again, i must do what I gotta do.

Setup consist of:
24v VR6
3.0L JE 9:1
Pauter rods
GT35R 1.06 AR
ID 1000's
TT cams
and other go fast goodies

Here is my SEM. 034efi Stage IIc which can be seen here http://www.034motorsport.com/article...articles_id=31
Here are some screen shots also of the system in use.

Please dont tell me to go to Motec or some other system. I am sticking with this system even if I have to drive 1600 miles away. Seems like this system wouldnt be too terribly hard for someone to tune.

My goal is 600whp on Q16. I know this can be done. I have all the hardware to make this happen, all I need is a reputable tuner to help me with my goal. If anyone can point me in the right direction, i would greatly appreciate it. I asked Tony Paulo to tune my car since he did such a wonderful job with Jeremys Mk3 GTI VRT, but I dont think he is interested.

Thanks for helping a "Vollllkswagggennnnnn!!" -Jeff Straka *S2K from Hell*

Something you may not have considered if you can't find someone else would be to fly one of those guys to you, rent a dyno, and pay them a negotiated amount for the tune. I'm not sure how common it is for this to happen, but I have heard of it in the past.

I'm sure you've been on the vortex... maybe a shot in the dark, but put up craigslist ads in yours and surrounding areas?

Doesnt look like anything super crazy to tune, so maybe you'll find someone here who is willing to play with it

Good luck

Thanks for the advice, i have discussed flying someone down with a few select tuners and it seems that it would be an inconvenience for them. Im more than likely going to need to drive somewhere. And as for Vortex...Im a Vortex ***** lol, so yea...Vortex couldnt help, so I came here to see what could be offered

Hi, thanks for the suggestion.
Kevin black only tunes Lugnuts, Im fairly certain he wouldnt be able to tune 034. Funny think you would mention billy from dubsquared. I originally had my motor built by them (well actually, they sent the motor off to a machine shop that i cant remember the name of, and then billy assembled it) and after a few thousand miles the motor ended up piston slapping. According to Bill Schimmel from Schimmel Performance, the cylinder walls were not bored out to the proper mm causing the pistons to slap. After this $3000 mistake, I decided to not do business with Dubsquared, even though they did not machine the motor themselves, I just feel bad joo joo coming from that.

Id really like to just send my software to Tony, with a demo of it, and see how much he would charge to learn it and tune my car. He is definitely the best, and closest tuner to me. He is only a mere 180 miles away.

I just recently was given the name of a good tuner name "mased"? How about him?

I personally tore your motor down(rod bearings were trashed).... we told you not to drive on that crap *** base tune that 034 sent you and you did anyway. The oil smelled like straight gas when I drained it out. Looks like you screwed it up to me. We told you to have the car tuned before you raced it and you raced it anyway. And for the record that motor was not assembled by anyone at the dubsquared. Looks like you need to find someone else to ship a head to tony1 to fit up those injectors for you. Thanks for the kind words!

Yeah he does tune 034EFI, he's a busy guy though. Get a hold of him and see if he's willing to do it, your car will be in good hands with him

That was a joke, right? I can assure you Kevin can (and has) tuned 034, along with the majority of the the other standalone systems on the market.

kevin black, lugnuts tuning, he also works for me Force Fed Engineering, kevin is away on vacation today but he is the most well known and successful tuner in the VW/Audi scene, he can tune your ecu if you would like.

034 though is not the most sophisticated ecu around for the money, you could have gotten a similarly priced unit that has some more function but its too late now, 034s datalogging is useless and some of the options are gay including a small map sensor unless you get the "upgraded one" which is standard on most all other ecus

lugnuts9@msn.com or 717 383 6576, call him tomorrow around 10am. He can come to you if you cover his travel.

At the time of purchase, which was about 3 years ago, 034 was one of my only choices to go with. I think it will be perfect though, and im sure kevin can make the most of it. The customer service at 034 is top notch, and is something you dont find with most other companies. i already emailed him, ill await his response and get this figured out. Thanks alot Ed!

Ive seen Kevin tune Autronic and DTA without a problem. I don't see 034 being much harder for him. Hes very very good at what he does.

Finding someone to tune it will be difficult, I won't touch it. It's like trying to go back to using Tec2.. and I tune 'cheap crap' all the time.

If Kevin agrees, jump at the opportunity to try and sneak a peek through his glasses.

Hello, Kevin here.

I'll have to pass on tuning the car. I tune this system locally, but it is definitely one of my least favorite systems out there.
Doing a remote tune would be a pain, and flying in would be a lot of money for you.

I would feel bad because you would still lack the features and useability of my $1200 ecu.

I have those available with 607 whp VR6 "basemaps" for what it's worth.

Even 3 years ago I could have set you up with an Autronic, which I've made 780 whp with on a VR6.

The 034 is one of the worst systems out there, you simply fell victim to "superior marketing".

Good luck with your project.

034EFI isn't that bad IMO. The only thing I REALLY dis-like about it is the ignition maps. Other than that, a lot of power can be/has been made with them, and I was impressed at how well it can be tuned for daily driving.

That fast? youve had the head for like 2 hours lol
Im sure you see the problem where the injector clip for the harness hits the head and doesnt allow the injector be pushed down all the way. It only works on 3 out of 6 injector ports. The other 3 need the adapter.
