First I spray down my car with the hose and get this big soft brush and knock the big stuff off. Then I have one of those mitts and I get in every little place and get every thing off really good. I then pull my car into my grange so I don't get water spots and use a terry towel to get all the water off. The soap I use is turtle wax car wash. After I'm sure every thing is nice and dry and there is nothing on there I use Meguiar's gold car wax and use another terry towel to remove the wax. I'm sure some of the really big detail guys out there think that pitiful but I think it looks great leaves a nice mirror finnish. It takes me at least 4-5 hours to get the care completely done but its so worth it.

I don't want to mess up my babies paint that's why I don't do it but what brand or type or wax do you guys recommend? the wash itself takes me 4 hours, I wonder how long it will take me if I wax it. Should I use the wax machine? is it safe?

I wax every time I wash, so once every 4-5 days. I usually do 5-6 coats then take it down with Dawn dishwashing soap, clay the flat spots (roof/hood/trunk) and start fresh. I'll polish it once every 6 months or so, and it's hit with a rotary buffer at 800rpm once a year (two stage finish).

It's pretty ridiculous, actually.

It's bad in the regard that the degreasing agents will strip the wax off the car, so it's not something you want to typically use. But to remove old wax buildup, it's excellent. There's nothing about it's detergent properties that are harmful to the paint, however.

Stupid. Besides the fact that you use dawn which is extremely bad to use, you must do a horrible job. If your having to re-wax your car with 5-6 coats every week you must be using the worst wax on this planet. A good wax should last you a couple months or more.

Everything you posted is ridiculous, please learn more about detailing and stop ruining your car and giving others idiotic ideas.

Ps, Xzilon ftw. We use it at my shop with amazing results, and lasts very long. Plus they have the greatest warranty ever.

i think you misunderstood what he said.

the way i took it, he said that he applies wax after he washes, which, when using a spray wax like optimum, is acceptable. he's not the only one that does that. it might be considered a bit excessive, but in detailing, that is a tough thing to gauge.

then, after he gets to a certain point where he's waxed it 5-6 times over the course of a couple months and the car has endured exposure and several washes, he uses dawn to strip whatever treatment and clays the horizontal surfaces, then waxes again. eventually, after several months, he polishes to remove any marring that might have occured over the couple months, and then waxes to start the cycle again. dawn and its somewhat hardcore surfactants are just fine for prepping to do a full detail because they will do a better job at removing any lingering LSP treatments vs. a typical car wash shampoo.

fyi, why red asked that is the machine compound/polish correction stage in a 'real detail' of a your average decent condition enthusiast's car can take as long as your total time there if not much longer. one stage.

10 hour exterior details are not uncommon for me. granted, it's perfection and not for everyone, esp at $35 an hour. look up threads in here started by Presidential_Detail- that is the type of detail i'm talking about.

here is a notice from P_D about his upcoming 'tour'. note the prices....

i'm only driving a civic... so i clean it as i deem fit.. if i was driving a high end car, then i can see myself attempting to put more effort into it.

meguiars gold class is ****. Barely lasts against the environment thrown at for a short time. THe NXT is a little better but not by much. Using dish soap wont harm your paint in the least bit, its great when doing a full wax as it cleans everything off the surface.

I spent a total of about 17 hours doing my detail job and i wasnt all that happy with the results in the end. Mostly the products i used but i could have put some more effort into it. The more care you put into actually taking care of it, the easier it is in the long run to maintain. And tha xzilon sh*t looks like a crock of poo. You wont find me puttin any kind of silicone based products onto my car that claim they last for over a year.
