Default NEED HELP, Cant crank car, no fuel.

Ok. So to catch everyone up on my problem here goes.

The other week my fuel gauge quit working. I narrowed it down to the sending unit, which Honda calls the meter unit for our model. So I bought the unit from Honda and set out to fix the problem.

I proceeded to drop the fuel tank to remove the fuel pump assembly. NOW after the fact I found out from a Walbro DIY from 8th, that you can access the assembly by removing the back seat and accessing it from the trunk area. Lesson learned. So I installed the the meter unit and placed the assembly back into the tank and installed the tank back in the car. I also had tested the new meter unit before installing to make sure that was in fact my issue with the gauge not reading fuel. It was the new unit fixed the problem.

NOW I have another big problem. The car wont start now. SO I went back to the drawing board and checked all connections again. Everything seems ok. I jacked the car back up and inspected around the tank again to make sure everything was hooked back up. It was. I went ahead and removed the back seat to access it from there. I inspected the connections again and they are ok. Also when you turn the key you can hear the pump priming. So I know the fuel pump is connected and working. So I disconnected the fuel line from the top of the fuel pump assembly and had someone turn the key. When the fuel pump primes, fuel is coming from the pump. I also had someone hold a cup while I turned the car over and it's pumping fuel. I also checked and the line from the fuel tank and it goes all the way to the front of the car straight to the fuel rail. So I disconnected the fuel line right at the fuel rail. Did the same test and NO FUEL. It's like somewhere from the pump to the rail it cant get fuel. So is there something simple I am missing here??? In the DIY for the Walbro pump, nowhere did it say priming or anything. OH before I forget I made sure the tank had fuel. It's over a half a tank of fuel. I thought maybe the basket on the bottom of the assembly needed to be filled with fuel so I made sure it was. Nothing.

I need your guys help here. It's like the fuel pump isnt pumping, but from the test it is. I also went back and removed the assembly again and cleaned the filter screen on the bottom of the pump, thinking maybe it was clogged.

Anybody??? Any advice??

Thanks

Travis

Check the fuel filter. Maybe something got in the line when you took it apart and clogged the filter.

Haha you took the words out of my mouth. I think you're right. I'm going to take a Fluke Meter tonight and test the voltage to the pump under load. As of now, low voltage to the pump is what I'm suspecting. It pumps fuel but NOT like it should. I think what might have happened, is when I was dropping the tank I put to much pressure on the wires on the connector. So there is connection but under load there's not enough current, hence low voltage sluggish pump.

ok problem solved.

Somehow when I put the fuel assembly back into the tank, I must have knocked the fuel pump loose. I blew on the fuel supply neck and fuel blew out from around where the top of the pump seats at the O-ring. So fuel was being pumped back into the tank. That is why the pump seemed to work but never could make it to the front of the car.

Problem solved. Now the car runs great and the fuel meter works.

Yeah I was starting to think it didn't like the E85 as well. Now I still don't have a culprit for the Meter Gauge to quit working. The E85 could have caused that, but not sure. I called the Service Department of a local dealership and was told several 06 and up Civic s have been in to have there Meter unit changed, NONE of the cars serviced had ever seen E85. So not sure.

BUT on a good note, the car runs GREAT on the E85. Only sucky part is the fuel mileage. Not so good. ESPECIALLY when your foot is in it. Which seems to happen a lot since it runs so well on the E85. Something interesting is I cleaned the inside of my Exhaust tail pipe about 2 weeks ago so I could see if the E85 created carbon residue like gas does. You can take your finger and run it inside the tail pipe and barely wipe any black carbon off onto your finger. So thats good to see. Also when I had the Fuel pump assembly out if looked as if I had it in Formaldehyde for the past 3 years. Pump plastic was pearly white, no yellowing. And all the wires still had great elasticity and no color fade. All in all, car is loving the E85. Oh and now its down to $2.15 a gallon. I would love to see what the inside of my engine looks like after using the E85. Someone referred to running E85 as, "constantly steam cleaning my head and cylinders."

how many miles per tank are you getting?? i heard that e85 was around 1 less mpg. but idk. the closest i can get to e85 is 100 octane from VP Streetblaze but that stuff is like $7.50-8 a gallon. i remember back in the day when they had the 100 octane for 4.99 a gallon. boy those were the days =]

I get on average 235 miles to a tank of E85, driving spirited most of the time. Compared to 375 or more on gas. So big difference. When I took E85 on a road trip I got around 300 for the tank. That's cruise control most of the tank.

Yeah it is nice having 105 Octane for $2.15
