Default 97 dx hatch died tonight, now cel 80

hello, i have a 97 dx hatch, bone stock except with gay: short ram intake, reactive header and high flow cat. on a 100hp motor i laugh every time i open my own hood. but anyways i just bought the car it sat for almost a year. i bought it ran good, got it home and one time it sputtered and ran like **** but it cleared up, i thought it was due to the bad gas. then 2 weeks later i had it out and it decided it didn't want to start again but it did and idled like **** but cleared after 5-10 min. tonight i just pulled on to the highway about to shift into 5th at 100kpm and the motor just dies. the car was running perfect, yesterday i changed the spark plugs and the oil/filter and that's it. here's what i know as of now almost 12am here, the timing belt is good, (i have to check the marks in the morning), motor still has compression. oil is still at top hash mark and is still clean. car turns over great. i can hear the fuel pump prime. i have a cel code 80 which is 80 EGR Valve/Line or CEL 80- Exhaust Gas Recirculation insufficient flow detected, would this actually cause my car to die?.

In the morning i plan to check: timing marks, crack a fuel line to see if there is fuel and presure, check for spark, try the unplug method for tps/map sensors. and try to find a copy of a helms manual again or atleast a hanes.

any thoughts or suggestions are welcome,

PS does anyone have a copy of the helms manual? if so could send it to me at unstable_componet@hotmail.com thanks, Tom

If you don't have spark, check the ICM and coil in the distributor. If you have spark, then the timing belt may have skipped a few teeth. My guess is that you''ll lack spark.
