Default **1st DIY Post** Rear Wiper Delete/Plug Install on EG Hatch

Let me just start off by saying this is my first DIY post, so please bare with me if I miss anything important. Also, only constructive criticism please. I am just trying to help people out that want to know how to do this modification. I tried to take pictures of every step but most of it is self-explanatory.

Tools:
10 mm socket and ratchet or 10 mm wrench
Large adjustable wrench (20 mm or 21mm socket not sure which one)
T20 Torx bit or Flat Blade Screwdriver
M6 1.00x16
Washer large enough

First off here is a picture of the rear wiper assembly found on my 92 Civic DX

Next, remove the rear wiper by using your 10mm socket and ractchet to remove the 10mm nut seen in the red box below

Then remove the rear wiper and you are left with just the cover as shown

Now remove the cover and with your adjustable wrench(or 20mm or 21mm socket not sure because I didn't have anything larger than a 3/4" socket) remove the nut shown in the red box

Next pop the latch and remove the black cover on the inside (not shown) using the T20 Torx bit or flat blade screwdriver. There are two screws then you just have to pop the cover off.
Now remove the three nuts holding the wiper motor to the back cover. The wiper motor should just fall out. Disconnect the plug and remove the wiper motor.

Now find a bolt and washer that will fit inside the plug. I find one in the shop at my house and the bag says M6 1.00x16. Correct me on this if I am wrong. I painted the washer and bolt black with SEM Satin Black Spray Paint just because I am a perfectionist at stuff like this.

Next just install the plug and bolt/washer then your done.

I reinstalled the black cover and left the wiring harness in case I decided to go back later and reinstall my wiper assembly. Enjoy and correct me if I miss anything.

Number 16 is the plug and number 20 is the bolt that fits so you don't have to look for one. But you do have to find a washer that allows the bolt to keep the plug against the wiper plate.

I've always thought of doing this because it looks better, IMO. But then I don't because I do use my rear wiper from time to time. Ahh, decision, decisions. Good job on the write up, though.

FYI, that funny large nut beneath the wiper blade requires a 23mm deep socket.

anyone ever try installing a third brake light in that area? I'm asking because i have a cf spoon replica duckbill wing and my third light is gone.. I thought it would be interesting to install a brake light where the wiper used to be.

one problem, when you remove the wiper motor you remove the big threaded part (where the delete goes) so what does that small nut you found thread too??? i feel like there is a missing step

Soo by doing this is does this delete the plastic case that the RR Wiper Motor was in? And also how would your window latch to the hatch or is that all left there?

The plastic interior piece is still pictured on the final photo.

Ugh, you guys suck. Why would you delete the rear wiper? You know how difficult it is to wire a CX/VX for this? I'd love to have a rear wiper on my hatches.

I think most people do it for one main, the rear motor after it goes out is expensive

I never use rear wipers really, I think it's a decent mod to make the car look a bit cleaner. Nice DIY.

Rear wipers are really worthless and I am glad my VX came without one!!! If it was only possible to remove the one on my SUV.

Now if you want to know what works better than the best rear wiper. Go get some rain-x!!

Not where I live. Snowfall and blizzards, -45 temperatures, sand and salt road grime, gravel roads, spring melt filth, torrential rainstorms, summer dust, forest fire haze and ash -- to just name a few. I like to be assured I can see out no matter what Mother Nature is throwing at me.

So do you have to remove the bolt that comes with the wiper motor that attaches to the arm? That's where the new bolt threads too?

So if you originally took the box out, how did you keep the latch on the windshield? And also I just wanted to say as an ace hardware employee, you can find plugs and grommets there that might be a decent delete for the wiper.
