Default 14 mpg's? why?

I just bought my first Integra and I've been having a few problems with it. It's a 99 GSR with 86k:

1st problem.. I've been getting about 14-15mpgs we changed the spark plugs, changed oil, replaced the front o2 sensor, and replaced map sensor. There is an exhaust leak and we are thinking of changing the fuel filter.... anyone have any other ideas?

2nd problem... I'm not able to pop vtec in 4th and only 4th. It just starts bouncing off the rev limiter at about 5k in 4th and won't rev past that, but only in 4th gear.

btw only mods are no name shorty header, no name shitty exhaust, and no name sri. I'm working on changing all that out..

I was thinking it could be that the previous owner modified the ECU but I don't know how to check for this.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've also done a lot of reading and have come up with nothing thus far. I've even left the car with a Honda tech for a week, he couldn't figure it out either. I'm pretty much stumped as to what the problem could be.

ANy cel? Did you friend race the heck out of the car, before you got it? I would check ignition coil for the car not revving past 5k. any smoke?

your first step is to pull codes from the ECU, that should tell you your problem.

does it actually bounce off the limiter? or does it hit 5k and drop rpms and wont let u accelerate?

the ecu might be part of your problem, especially if it's one of those open loop only units. if the exhaust leak is before the o2 that is another problem. if the exhaust is able to suck in air the o2 will see a lean condition and dump more gas.

Yeah, I've been looking for one but didn't want to spend a lot of money on a hunch...

well, the thing is the cel doesn't work... I found that out when I got it scanned. I don't know who owned the car before I bought it at a used car lot.

I'll check the ignition coils...

I'm pretty sure it was p0108 that popped up...

It sounds like its bouncing off the rev limiter... when I do a roll on in 4th it just hits 5k and bounces so it doesn't accelerate.

Yeah the exhaust leak is right where the exhaust meets up with the header. I really need to get that fixed... :/

i have the same 14-15 mpg problem as you i dont know where my exhaust leak is i have dc headers no name sri, straight pipe exhaust. changed my fuel filter, oil/filter, spark plugs no change. the only problem i dont have is the 4th gear problem. the P0108 code is "Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input" you said you already replaced your o2 and map sensor so i dont know why that code poped up

your exhaust leak is probly just the gasket where your header meets your piping

i have a spec 97 ITR engine on the factory JDM ecu that pulls 29-30mpg all day long. don't even think about trying to say these numbers are reasonable. there is something wrong and it's likely something we have spoken of. correct it before possible engine damage occurs.

when I was running Uberdata back in the day, I had a P28 and did a full tune on the car. i left it in open loop and drove to an event in atlant. I typicalluy got 30MPG on the highway and being that it was in open loop, it eventually rewrote the pertial trhottle maps until I was getting 14-15 MPG. I rewrote the chip, put the ecu into closed loop and all was fine. Sounds like the prior owner did a crappy socket job and put in a ebay chip in open loop. swap out the ecu and go from there...

Dump the no-name header, the leak kills your gas mileage

I used to have a megan header, and it leaks like sh_t.. I can even smell the exhaust fume from the vent..

The car feels has no torque and get low gas mileage

I'll look online but can I some how check and see if my ECU has been chipped? The guy who had it before me pretty much put on ebay springs, header, exhaust, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was ebay chipped. Also if it is in open loop, which I think it is, its the only thing that makes sense, how would I get it back into closed?????
