Guys,

what is this whirring sound I get when I start up my car? Its only started happening in the past week. And it only happens when its starting, not at all when the car is running. The car has given me 4,000 trouble free miles and all its maintenance is up to date. Timing belt and water pump were done 20k miles ago.

Its only for a brief second but you can hear a whir /whine type at startup.

sounds to me like a weak start-up. maybe due to weak battery/starter/alternator? just kinda throwing suggestions.

 

Might be your pwr steering pump whinning?

 

check power steering fluid level

 

Bingo.

Hold a screwdriver upto your ear and to the alternator; if that's where the clicking sound is from, replace it.
