This is the perfect place for your question. You searched, so no worries. I can't really offer you anything at the moment, but i'm interested to see what kind of answers you get. I'm shooting for ~450whp when i dyno Friday so i'll probably be in the same situation. I'm currently running BFG Drag Radials

BFG DR's will be trashed within a week with 500 hp on the street. At higher boost levels I use M&H dot's (235/70/15). The car pulls hard in every gear and tracks straight...good tread life too. They are bias ply though. MT dr's are nice too.

I switched from BFG 225/50 15s to the same size Mickey Thompson and was able to use 3rd gear at a 340whp setting. With the BFGs it was spinning the tires. It holds noticeably better also @ the 540whp setting but 3rd is pretty loose. Changing to boost by gear - Hondata 300.

Are u wanting to know for street/track, or track only?
I have MT 26x10x15 slicks for the track and nittos 555r for street/dyno.. MT and MH both make a good DR.

On the street been running bfg 225/50/15 drag radial and they will occationally hook 2nd gear on spring pressure (a bit over 400whp) if you heat them up, has to be on good concrete though, blacktop is a joke. 3rd gear I start on spring pressure and ramp up a couple psi pretty quickly after, hooks all of it on any decent road. 4th gear it will hook anything you throw at it thus far.

I am changing to a m/t as I hear they work better to see if I can get 2nd gear to hook more consistantly.

Oh and I run about 18psi-20psi warm in the tires... little low for driving on the street all the time like that. I dont daily my car though, cruise it and occationally hit up meets.

Depending on what front end I decide to run on my car ill be using the M/T 235/60/15 or the 255/50/16, my new corn tune should be deep in the 600hp range so I am going to need all the rubber I can get.

Thats the truth, I got 200ish miles out of mine, and I could still blaze them in 4th gear ramping the boost from WG pressure to 20psi.

I tried all different pressures all the way down to 15psi and they still spun but with a passenger in the car I could get the car to haze 3rd and hook 4th off WG (450ish)

Yea I dont know what to think, like if its just luck or something lately. Dont get me wrong its not ideal and hooking well every time, it takes a little bit of doing to get it to work but its definately better than my experience with these BFG's to date.

Honestly I had such a hard time with these tires never hooking in 2nd and part of 3rd, it was a HUGE issue at one point. I mean I can only run as low as the spring which is a 1bar (bit over 400), so I could not take any more power out.

Recently changed some things. Brought it 3/4 inch more in back ride height and droped pressure to 18 warm... did a little burnout to get em hot, car would hook 2nd on the concrete... it caught me by suprise to be truthful. Even when you dont do a burnout its still pulling and fighting on the verge of traction... you can pedal it a little and still get partially hooked up decent with a little throttle control. The bad though is I have to watch the 1-2 shift... too fast of a shift, it will blow right through the tire. I have to time it just right, let it nose over a little and back into it. So its not perfect like I said I did not mean to sound like it is, still progress to be made.

Way better than before though, it use to be like ice... second I would hit boost and it would shoot straight for redline in an instant.

I think another couple suspension changes and maybe a tire change to m/t or m&h's should make some more headway on it. BTW this is a full interior 4dr accord.

Everyone in this thread is talking about street tires, you need large DR's (225/50 and up) to hook large power on the street.

ive tried them all

225/50/15 mickey thompson dr's....youll thank me later.

last 10 times longer and hook 10 times better. i guess what makes them last longer is that im not spinning the hell out of them since they actually hook up.

Toyo slicks: 25x9-15
Excellent traction, and high/top end stability.

just curious, would there be any benefit from running like a 14" rim over a 15" rim if the tire size (tall) was the same? more side wall?

I would think it would help some, as long as you had enough air let out of them to increase the contact patch. I think the downsides would be a much "floatier" feeling while driving pending the other measurments of the tire.

tried them. like i said ive tried every drag radial there is. hoosiers where better than bfgs when they were new but traction sucked on them once you got a few miles on them. and they were out real fast just like bfg's.. i would wear them all out from just spinning on the hwy! my mt's ive had for awhile hook the BEST and they still look brand new, i truly cant believe them. im just happy to have a tire now that hooks up and doesnt wear down to cords in 3 weeks.

I aquired a set of mt 225's when I got my car. the were pretty much worn down to a slick. And I sware to god they probably are stickier now then they were when I first aquired them. When driving you can hear it pick up a lot of rocks like slickes do at the track.

yup mine do that new...without even heating them up. just making a pass down the street and they are stickier than hell.
