97 civic !!!OVERHEATING!!!!
well. this happen months ago but it turns out to be low coolant so i added more. and recently, it started to overheat alot. it goes past the middle and close to "H". and i just notice that my head gasket is leaking. do you guys think its because of the HG leaking?
and i dont think its my thermostats. cuz i read (on hayne) that "if the upper coolant hose is hot, coolant is flowing and thermostat is open." working properly.
any help would be great. thanks

yes if upper coolant is hot its flowing.
you have a head gasket problem...if your head gasket is leaking and you can see it then man its got to be super bad to be that bad.
change hg asap!

There are a bunch of headgaskets that leak. I would look at the coolant in the radiator first to make sure its not milky and do a compression test before i would rip the head off.
Yeah u got a big job ahead of u dude!check for white smoke just be extra sure though.I've seen ppl replace HGs and find out the prob was valve cover gasket LOL
looking at the coolant in the radiator? you mean under your oil cap or in your oil...
head gaskets only take 45 mins to change...
thanks..i have everything to do a hg..been waiting to do but no time..and now with this..imma do it today..thankz again

wth? Headgaskets arnt supposed to leak...if it is then you have a big problem. If its leaking then you are loosing compression and or fluilds...the hell...

= you
Your high as ****, almost half of the people on here have oil leaking from the headgasket right where the head meets the block on the transmission side. I could care less if it was leaking from there. Please dont get your dick in a knot. You would know if your headgasket needed to be replaced by a very obvious white cloud coming out of the exhaust followed by your car running like **** (a simple compression test would tell as well). Or you could just take a look under the radiator cap and see if the coolant looks like cholately milk.
= you
= youJust because half the people on here are loosing oil and leaking head gaskets doesnt make it alright. I have had 6 different motors and none of them leaked where you say they leaked...none of my friends in town leaks...cause if they leak all of them change it.
Apperently you have not had a head gasket problem. I have had 2 sunk AEBS sleeves with jack for compression adn it stilll ran good. I boosted on sunken sleeves for a half a year before i changed it. I just had to refill my coolant from overflow back into my radiator. Oh and even with two sunken sleeves i barely had any white smoke.
Just cause you have head gasket problems doesnt mean your car runs like ****. It just means you will over heat if you dont watch it...or loose oil.
and once again NO you check under your oil cap to see if its milky...do you know how much oil that had to have gone into your coolant system to make it milky? ALOT and if that much oil got into your coolant system you got more to worry about then just a headgasket you will need a complete coolant system flush from all that sludge. which is why you look under your oil cap cause it only takes a lil coolant in the oil to make it milky...

what you do with the rad cap is have it off and start the car. rev the motor and see if there are bubbles coming out. If there is bubbles coming up then you have a leaky hg. You can LOOK in the coolant to see how clean or dirty it is thats always another sign. Maybe oil floating on the top of coolant but never milky coolant. In fact i dont think thats even possible...milky OIL yes...
ask anyone they will tell you the same thing...
i dare you to even make a thread on which one is milky rad cap or oil cap...on top of that i dare you to make a thread saying if its normal for a head gasket to leak...and if you are right you can just add it to your lil signature there seems like you need all the ego boost you need.

wow...its called giving the forum correct information so others can learn and fix their car the correct way. Thats what we are all here for is help and hopefully providing correct knowledge.

Check your oil cap valve cover. If it theres some white greasy residue on it then you have a leaky HG. Possibly a water and oil mix. That causes overheating too.
LoL I helped out the OP on his thread, you have the nerve to tell me that i post "bullshit about nothing" when you posted this? congradulations, you're just another HT douche. and you obviously know nothing about an engine if you think it's ok for a headgasket to leak. GTFO noob!

LoL do you feel like a cool guy for calling me a lil kid? I hope so. I'm 24 years old and have been building Hondas since i was 16. I know what the **** i'm talking about. I need to grow up? you're the one that started all this E-Douchery!! need I remind you? ---> So, you grow up, and stop putting other people down in their threads. besides, fighting on the internet is like the special olympics, no matter who wins, ur still retarded! and it's lookin like you got a bit of Down's Syndrome going on, so before you make even more a douchebag of yourself, go drive your leaky headgasket engine and keep your shitty opinions to yourself. and yes, like i said...GTFO noob!
sorry OP Apparently HT attracts the biggest douchenozzles on the planet. I hope replacing your T-stat and headgasket (if you choose to do so) fixes your problem. if not, come back and let us know what's up. we'll have you on the road in no time, and hopefully **** suckers like this guy with keep their garbage and non helpful opinions and comments to themselves!
peace!

i had a pissed off **** that took my post the wrong way because he misinterpreted my words, and thats when this stupid drama broke out because he thought he would step in a throw down a bitch fit over the so called "leaking headgaskets" when basically all i said was they start to leak at that one corner and its nothing to cry over.
if the head is perfectly flat and the block is flat and the gasket is good there should not be any leaks at all.
truthfully i have never ever heard of using hondabond on the headgasket. I have built some motors including one that pushes 420 hp and i still never had to use any copper spray or honda bond on the oil passages and never had a problem. If anything logic tells me thats a bad idea as it may raise that corner .001 inches which may infact causes leaks and later on a bad headgasket due to inconsistent surface. Sounds more like a band aid to a bigger problem.
