I know the stereo isnt supposed to be important but I was just wondering what everyone thinks of it. IMO I think its fine unless you want to crank it.
Most people that buy the ITR, the sound of the radio is LEAST important!
I gave up on trying to hear mine while driving
I'm not complaining either, as there is something about the song of an R
have any of you guys kept the factory head unit and upgraded the speakers? just speakers - no amp or sub. if so, how was it and what speakers did you use?
BTW.. the front speakers for a G3 Acura are $6 each from the dealer!!!!!

ITR stock radio and speakers are the bomb! They sound like ****!
Sound **** = less weight (from speakers).
I took out the rear speakers and it sounds the same as with 4 speakers... ****. I love my car.

guess i'll install the pioneer p7400mp in the R.. it was going to go in the accord
The amp will not make it sound better...
The Deck is the one to change out for the most dramatic improvment.

Well here is one for the weight saver in all of us I know I will probably get flamed but here is what I did..................
1) In my previous life (12 months ago) I was a ricer, I had a civic Si DUmped on chromes with a big system.........anyway a carry over from this was I really enjoy listening to music while driving and I still had the components left over when i sold the SI
2) I took out my factory head unit and weighed it and there was negligable difference to the weight of the JVC Kameleon unit I had so I put that in.
3) I took out my factory speakers and weighed them as well then went around to my local car audio store with a set of scales because I had heard about the Lanzar Neo speakers which are light weight slim fit.
4) Weighed th Lanzar Neos and guess what they weighed less than the factory speakers (and sound 200times better and dont require thespeaker cup to be cut)so I have ordered a set of these and they will go in soon.
5) I pulled out my spare, my jack and the tools and weighed them then I grabbed my amp, sub box (just a removable one made of thinnish mdf) and a can of spare tyre in a can and weighed that and there was very little difference (about 1 -2 kg) so I ditched the spare jack and tools and put the amp sub and tyre in a can in and voila good sound with minimal weight increas.
6) Now I have to try and lose a few lb off my gut and it will all be even ha ha ha ha and when I take it to the track I pull out the amp and sub etc etc.........
I have run a best of 14.8@90mph with all of the gear in anyway so I figure there isnt much differnce and if I wanna hear that sweet R sound I mute the stereo......

I actually used to listen to the radio/CD player. It wasn't great but it wasn't *that* bad either (I'm no audiophile).
After the exhaust, fuggetaboutit. It's an effort in futility.

...but it can be uninstalled in less than 5 seconds. For street driving, and especially during rush hour traffic when the VTEC song is unavailiable, or you are just sick of the road noise. A good sound system is a must, and I am a music lover as I always sing and drive.
The stock radio isn't that bad for a stock unit.
I think if you soldered some capacitors to the stock speakers, and got a powered sub, it would sound decent.

I pratically live in my R. Even though you hardcoe boys say the sweet sound of the B18C5 is all you need, It sucks to have no radio.
I need to get off my lazy *** and install my system that is sitting in my room.

the frequency response of the deck is the weak link. You would get better results installing a new deck and using the stock speakers.

Yeah I concur as well. Upgraded the speakers first.. not a noticable difference. The stock headunit is just too weak.. Now I have a pioneer 7400mp, works like a charm! Not a huge audiophile, but the new deck itself has enough punch (dont need an amp)

definitely...I replaced the head unit with a Sony one, kept the stock speakers, sounds much better.
