Picking up an S2000...What do/did you all pay?
Alright, so I am looking to pick up an AP1 S2000 here shortly if I can get my mom to Co-Sign the loan for me. I have a friend who is friends with a guy selling a mint condition 02 AP1 with 67,xxx miles. He is asking 11,500 for it. Do you all think that is a good price? The car is very mint. He popped the hood, and I did not see anything to make me think something is wrong. Bay look like it just came off the showroom. He does oil changes on it every 1k miles, and only put 3k miles on it this year alone. The car is completely stock other than the glass window and some wheels, but he is throwing in the stockers. Think this is a good deal?
Anyway, if I get the car, how much are you all paying on car insurance full coverage? I am 19 years old, clean driving record, and is with State Farm. Any input will help greatly so I just know what to look for and such.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, he is a cool guy, and keeps his cars immaculate. He had an NSX, and is going to purchase one soon I believe.
How much are you paying on insurance if you don't mind sharing that info.

LOL, I won't tell you the guy or give you his number.
haha.
The car is in great condition though. I hope I can pick it up soon. Do you all think I'll have a problem getting a 10k loan with a co-signer? What do you think the payments and insurance will be like? Horrible?

Why dont you just check it out yourself? Just go to geico.com or progressive.com and do a quote and put in all the info. After that just send me an PM with the guys number so I can just make sure its a legit S2000!

It was worth a try! Seriously, get it before he changes his mind or decides to sell it to someone else. Its a damn good buy if you actually know the guy and it was really well taken cared of.

Wait, you haven't even looked into getting a loan? I will tell you that with that mentality already you are probably going to get hosed on a interest rate even with your mom as a co-signer, most places won't allow loans for cars older than 5 years, and if they do they require a large downpayment. And $1500 saved up for it is not going to cut it.
I just bought mine for 17.5k and put in 8k from my car's sale and got a loan for the rest.

wish i could give you a good quote...but im my wife and I are both 25, having full coverage on three hondas(s2k, rsx, and civic) and we pay 160 month. We also both have clean driving records....If i had to guess, you will be paying in the 200 ball park minumum since you are 19. I remember i wanted a newer cobra when i was 20 with one ticket and my insurance was like 325 or something crazy...needless to say i did not get the cobra. gl
Insurance for people below 25 is horrible. One. it's a 2-door convertible. It's a sports coupe. It's relatively new. It's your first car, and regardless of your driving record, let's face it. Apparently, the majority of young people tend to be reckless with cars, get more tickets, more accidents, more DUIs and anything else that cause a driver to be deemed unsafe on the road. Therefore, I would choose alternatives based on how much you wanna waste--er spend on the s2000 and insurance. Don't forget the maintenance, gas, and what if someone got jealous and dinged your car or what not. You decide. Just my two cents.

I'm 18 with nothing on my record,
we are on a family thing and the s2k is under my dads name
he pays around 100ish per month for full coverage
and we put my name under the toyota avalon
which I pay around 65 dollars per month for one way

devietboi, I am going to be doin the same thing. Doing a family type thing, and putting my mom/dad's name on the S2000, and then I'll be on the '93 Isuzu Trooper like we've been doing. I have an Integra, and had a EK a couple years back, and since I've been driving this is what we've been doing.
I should be going to the bank though here sometime soon, just haven't had the time off to.
Can't you put your mom as the primary driver and you as part time? I'm not saying it's gonna be cheap but it will def help out. Oh and lose State Farm, they rape everyone. Go with Mercury
I pay $100 per month for both my 08 S2000 and 92 Integra, but then again I'm 32 and my record is flawless

Yeah, we are gonna be doing that. I won't be the primary driver on the car. I am not even a primary on the Integra.
haha
