Post aftermarket performance muffler

Hey Guys, I have aftermarket performance muffler and plan to install on my 96honda accord 2.2 engine, will it increase it performance in terms of power, will it increase fuel consumption? I plan to install this as the original muffler already need to be replace due to noise inside the muffler.

You probably won't notice any change at all except the sound.

i assume what you have is either an axle back or a universal with a length of pipe fitted.

if the rest of the exhaust is still factory, a dyno may not even show a change...

if you had decided to replace the entire exhaust system with performance parts, then maybe some noticable change.

the only change in fuel usage will be dependant on your foot to the gas pedal (...a little carried away listening to the new sound.)

Good point, most people miss that cuz they think the cat will last forever or are scared of the cost of replacement.

Thanks for all your immediate reply, by the way what does mean of axle back or a universal with a length of pipe fitted? The muffler that I've got has is straight forward inlet to outlet, not on offset type, will it gonna be too loud, if it is too loud is there any silencer that I can put on?

Come on man... axle back is the term used for an exhaust system that is simply the last pipe which is attached to the muffler... cat back = piping from the cat to muffler, axle back = just the last pipe and muffler.

We don't even know what muffler this is exactly, so we can't really tell you.

What brand and model?

Axle backs usually aren't seriously loud, but if it is too loud for you, you can buy silencers depending on the outlet size, 3.5", 4", and 4.5". Measure the opening in the outlet and search ebay for a universal silencer, they're pretty cheap.

Silencer: Yes, you can find one.
Sound: Hardly attractive.
Performance: Likely NADA. The only thing that's changing when you replace your muffler is the rate of reduction of exhaust note. There is no power increase because a muffler is simply that--a part that muffles your ride's exhaust note.
Oil and fuel consumption will stay the same. If you'd like to optimize that, you should consider investing in the FULL exhaust setup (i.e. Header, CAT, and Cat-back Exhaust) My car gets EXCELLENT gas mileage with these parts on.
