Default MFactory ti-moly coated gears and final drives

I've been test fitting and abusing the ti-moly coated gears the past few weeks. Also been doing some in-car footage to show people the difference gear changes can make in acceleration and shift points- as people can stand so many graphs

These are the same close ratio sets MFactory is currently producing, but with a ti-moly coating to add strength and reduce friction.

Not done with video footage yet and still have one more trans to open up and test. But so far it's gone:

2001 Integra Type R. Bone stock with intake stick only. 107k miles

Stock trans.
Stock with 3-4-5 close gears
3-4-5 close gears with 4.9 FD
stock gears with 4.9 FD

Video footage will be up soon.

I will share some photos of the new gears- installed great, quality top notch, and fitment ideal.

Will update thread with new pics and the final video once completed.

They look the same in person as they did in the rendering lol.

You're going to hate the gear set with the 4.9 FD unless you're autocrossing with it.

Quit taking pics and posting and get to work now.

Thats with my 3.2mp cell phone too....with a good digi cam, it looks identical to the renderings, almost fake

So how much abusing can you do with a stock ITR? Add strength for fatigue, shock, etc?

Oh, dear Lord! lol

Looks good. Keep us updated. What does the 'abusing' consist of though?

Pics look good

The initial testing was only for fitment (we need to make sure the coating doesn't interfere with anything), and also to make up some install and comparison videos.

In terms of "abuse", I don't think Evan meant it in the sense of "trying to break something", rather, he is going to really drive the **** out of them from all angles for the videos we are making. We know he is not going to break them on an NA car (unless he does some mid-air superman style rally stuff).

The purpose of the coating is not so much strength (surface hardness is increased, but it is just a coating), but more for the anti-friction properties. And before someone points out, yes, we are aware of the gear cones :p

Purdy Ricer Colors

Just kidding.

This is just for lower friction and hopefully a by product, stronger gears?

BTW OP, no all pics are loading.

Yup, mainly for lower friction (lower friction = less heat = less parasitic losses = more power). By-product is increased surface hardness

Is this something that can be applied to exsisting gears or only done during manufacturing process?

What about the gear cones? Is there a noteworthy effect of the coating on the timoly-brass interface?

I'm pretty sure this will only be available upon purchase of gears. Gears cones will likely be masked off during coating for production.

why not coat the cones? would the friction be too low on the synchro ring? seems like they would wear less though

synchros NEED the friction.

Gear Cone wear hasn't been a issue.

The ti-moly gears are still being tested.

With regards to your broken synchro, I got your email and will reply asap

Ok, the ricer in me is curious about the cosmetic uses of such coatings.

Anyone have any useful links to information concerning it?

Its a proprietary coating.
