Default Anyone have the mugen chipped P28? How is it?

So many choices. Don't know what to do with my stock P28 ECU. People say to "chip" it, but I don't know which "chip" to get.

By the way, how good is the Mugen "chip?"

I hear the RPMS increase to 10,000. I also hear that MUGEN chipped P28 runs very rich.

I plan to use the P28 with my GSR head, B16 block combo. I have ITR pistons with CTR cams.

my friend had that same setup with a mugen chipped p28 ecu in an EK.

it was pretty quick and vtec was crazy... i believe he was running high 13's to low 14's.

i have a chipped P28 with Mugen program.

Runs extremely rich at start up, but once warmed up not bad.
Get's bad gas mileage.

BUT......Throttle response is incredible and pulls very hard. I like it despite the lack of gas mileage.

I have a program that will run better than the 'Mugen' program. I can also put in a custom rev limit and VTEC switchover point.

Email me at kenji211@tampabay.rr.com for more info.

first by running a stock P28, on a B16A = lean, and possible problems of detonation, overheating

second, the revlimit which is set at 7200rpm will not get you anywhere as B16As start to make power and need to be reved high to make that power. at least 8200rpm limit is needed.

so yes chip it, and you will defiantly gain alot of power from doing so, there are alternatives to Mugen program

The program is alright, I gained quite bit from just that upgrade and test pipe. It DOES run very rich though. I'm still getting about 26mpg, not too bad, I have it leaned out a couple percent on the VAFC for narrow throttle. I would recommend getting a fuel controller to compensate for the fuel added. I had my car tuned on a wideband O2 and I leaned out my fuel at 7500RPM 15%. That is quite a bit. If you really want details about the program, Hondata had a good writeup about it here. http://www.hondata.com/mugen.html

mugen program is good on built motors, but kenji is the man on ecu programming. if i could do it again, his chips are the best!

**** the Mugen Program.

First of all, it runs in open-loop constantly...that's why it gets such shitty mileage.

Try the Skunk2 Program, or a JDM B16a Proggy w\ VAFC. That way you can actually put it ona Dyno. It all depends on your setup though...if your Static CR is too high, the Mugen Proggy runs too much timing more than likely.

Ever looked at the code for both Mugen and Skunk2 programs? Same ****. But Skunk2 uses different hardware and solders different points on the ECU board, giving different results but still same VTEC and rev limiter specs.

I've used the Mugen P28 on a B-series motor... works good but milage sucks (great for racing) but my only grip is that VTEC needs to be dropped down to 5000.

I had the Mugen program once and loved it, but now i'm going for Kenji's program.

But basically, bad gas mileage.

That b16 block gsr head type r piston combo should pull hard bro. I think that's like 11.6:1 compression.

Should be bad-***.
