I have a 1990 honda civic ex four door manual that is having a strange and frustrating starting problem. When i go to start it it sounds like it trying to turn over but is not catching spark or fuel, but when it starts it runs fine so im thinking starter, but heres the catch...... sometimes when it starts it sounds like its trying to die from no air or fuel, i try to give it some gas and it has no affect on the motor whatsoever then shortly dies. Any ideas?

 

I had a friend that said it could be the main relay, it really sounds like some kind of fuel problem, its like its starting but its getting no fuel and the check engine light only comes on at higher speeds or higher revs. Once it starts it runs fine.
