so im replacing the headgasket and t-belt and waterpump and thermostat, and it seems to be pretty straightforward

when i get the head off im gonna check it to make sure its level and if i have to get it milled then should i have them do anything else while its off?

ive heard porting the intake side makes good gains, is this true?

and i believe that if it has to be milled then i need to remove the cam and rockers, what should i replace upon removing the cam? bearings? seals? or should i just reuse?

 

well i worked on it for most of the day and i have everything off so im ready to pull the head, that didnt take long

what is taking awhile and has me really frustrated is the crank pully bolt, the bolt has reverse threads correct? i tried both with a breaker bar and both electric and air impacts and cant get it to move at all

please help

 

No the crank pulley bolt does not have reverse threads. We need to know year make & model of this car you're talking about. When the head comes off, take it to machine shop & have it vacuum tested, pressure tested, & checked for flatness. If it passes all those tests and has less than 200K on it I'd leave it alone for daily driving. All stock heads can benefit from port match grinding tho

 

thanks, i finally got it off and took the head up to the shop. its getting milled and a full valve job and i should have it back sometime tonight or tomorrow.
