So I am about to purchase a civic soon, and I wanted to know how I could tell if the civic is an SI or not. The badge is removed so is there any other way I could tell it is an SI? Here are some of the pictures:

in the vin a couple letters down(4-5) it will say ej6, ej8 or which i doubt will say em1, si... also see what motor it has.

 

So which should it say if its an SI? And what should the motor look like?

EM1 will be Si. The motor will be a B16A2 if it is indeed the original motor. B16A2 will be stamped on the block to the left of the header if you were looking inside the engine bay.

 

its not, i cant tell if i see a sunroof but no dohc stickers. but that info ^ is correct...

and ex's... and its gonna say ej6, ej7, ej8, or em1(si). the others are ex, dx, hx...

and u can tell how? unless it been repainted and had the grill replaced/ spoiler removed...

 

The vin number can be located on the door latch, on the engine bay firewall....

 

Both ex's and SI's have sunroofs, just check the vin...

 

4th letter will be an 'E' 5th will be 'M' 6th will be a '1'


also you can tell by interior. headrests on seats will have a hole in them where ex's dont....

However everyone is right. It should say EM1 in the VIN. It should also have rear disc brakes. It should also have a sunroof. It should also say "SI" on the gauge cluster. It should also have a b16a2. If it has all of this, then who cares what it actually was originally, as long as it was built right. just my .02

 

do si's have power windows as an option? i dont know if the ek's do but the eg's didnt (idk about the si-r)

 

it should also have DOHC Vtec sticker on rear fender, i guess it is not Si only thing from SI is tail lights.

 

all 99-00 have those tailights. even the DX
it has the si front lip so maybe

just check the motor. must be DOHC a b16a2.

 

check for the usual, em1 on the firewall vin and dash vin. rear disc brakes, moon roof, b16a2 motor. seats, front lip

 

Ok I am going to go look at this car in about 2 hours, where are the VIN's lcoated?...
The owner said the dashboard was stolen and says there is about 78k miles on it...
How can I tell if they are lying or not...
What kinds of things should I be looking for..?

Uh yeah because that is not sketchy, but hey it's your money. I would not buy it unless it was a steal... which it probably was stolen... Read all the posts everyone already told you exactly where to find all the stuff you are looking for.
