Default question about buying a bike

I went to look at a 2003 R6 w/ 14000 miles for $4100 the other day that looked interesting in the pics on craiglist. The owner rode the bike about 5 times since 2007 and the bike was laid down at stop sign and once when pushing it into the garage. due to the fall there is a small scratch on the swing arm by the wheel nut and some rash on the fairing, but nothing noticeable unless you look really close.

bike comes with Two Bros. Carbon Fiber exhaust, LED taillight w/integrated signals, CF front signals, CF mirrors, black mirror windscreen, new battery.

The bad:
chain is rusty/extremely dry, brake fluids are dark not amber, the oil hasn't been changed since 2007 and the tires are a bit worn down.

I wanted to know if $3500 was a good deal for the bike, which is what the owner is willing to take or should I just look else where due to how the bike was maintained?

I would probable walk. The bike market is different in every state, but when I was looking, and I still browse to just see what my bike is worth, you can get a clean 03 for a little more. I paid 4800 for my 05 r6 w/ 10k in perfect shape. I would pay 3000 depending on the damage, but with swing arm scuff I don't know.

thats what i figured, thanks. i'm actually going to look at an 04 R6 w/ 11000 miles that's never been laid down and had all scheduled maintenance done for $4200

Bike comes with new michelin pilot powers, Yoshumura Slip-On Exhaust, Scorpio Alarm, DynoJet Power Commander, Hot Bodies Custom Undertail, Flush Mounted Turn Signals and Zero Gravity Windscreen.
Extras are: Helmet, Bike Cover, Bike Lock, Bike Stand and Textile Riding Jacket (L)

We'll see what happens after I check it out.

or wait a week or so until your friend can come along on his crutches, its a good idea to go with one or two friends. its just more sets of eyes to judge things and to gauge the guy you're buying from.
dont buy in the rain or in the dark, and make sure the engine is cold when you arrive so you can see if she's smoky at start-up. if you're going alone, dont be afraid to walk away and think about it more, you can always come back for it

Good advice^

As a matter of fact... walk away, and take 24 hours to think it over or look at other options.

thanks guys, i just saw the second bike today and it was pretty nice. i did notice a tiny bit of smoke when revving it after it had started, is that normal? however, the smoke disappeared after the bike warmed up.

took it for a spin and ran through all the gears and didn't feel or notice anything strange while riding. everything worked fine, didn't notice any leaks or anything after the ride.

anyways, moving forward, the bike was sold an hr ago. i try not to buy anything on the spot to reduce buyers remorse and to see if the good lord really wanted me to have it.

so the search continues, i just want to say thanks to everyone for taking the time to share their opinions.

A little condensation or oil on start up is fine

How long does the "good lord" make you wait before you can go buy the bike you want?

LoL.
I have to say if you know what you are getting into you have to arrive prepared to buy. If it is a good deal it will go. If you are looking at a clean bike, then there should be nothing to think about unless you arrive to purchase it and the bike is completely different from what you were told. The last three cars and two motorcycles I bought were on spot first time looking at them. Normally for 20 min or so. You either know what you want going into the purchase or don't.
