Extended Warranty for 08 SI
We got the honda extended warranty bumper to bumper 7 years/100,000 miles with roadside assistance. They charged us $1382 w/$100 deductible. After reading everything on this board, I'm beginning to think we could have gotten a better deal by negotiating with them. We've only had the car since Saturday and have to go back to the dealership with paperwork for our old car. Is there any way we can still negotiate this, or is it a done deal?
I found that I have 60 days to cancel the extended warranty. This one is through American Financial that I got at the dealership. Would I be smarter to go with a different one or negotiate a better deal?
Thanks.

Maybe cancel it then buy it again when you get to the end of the factory warranty? My dealer told me this was an option, but I went ahead and bought it. Sucks though, as I probably wont keep the car that long, but Im pretty sure you can get a refund for it if you dont use it? Will have to look into how all of that works.
I read the paperwork. I have 60 days to cancel. I think I am not going to take an extended warranty at all at this point. I have owned Honda's since the 80's and have never had an extended warranty. We still have 15 months left on the original warranty and I don't think we'll have this car for 7 years. Between getting rid of that and the gap insurance, I can save over $2,000.
As you said, the other option is to wait until the factory warranty runs out and then get an extended warranty. I have to go back and have all the paperwork redone.

Id recommend you did NOT get rid of the GAP insurance. Your car gets totalled and ends up worth less than your loan value and you're screwed. Small price to pay for that piece of mind IMO.
My outlook on the extended warranty is that if it really were a good deal for everyone who bought it and Honda was losing money on it they wouldn't be selling it in the first place. All that **** they try to sell you is BS in my opinion. I bought a Honda so I wouldn't have to worry about stuff going wrong with it. GAP is crap too, I don't know if anyones looked at what used Si's go for but some are going for what I payed for mine brand spanking new.

Seems a little expensive. Back before I knew about Troy and his warranty deals, When I purchased my 05 civic, I paid 695.00 for the 5 year 100,000 no deductible honda care warranty. So far I've gotten a new drivers seat out of the deal. Other than that nothing has gone wrong with the car and I'm only at 70,000 miles. Jeeze I only have 4 months to put 30,000 miles on it But I figure over the 5 years it was all of 139 per year to know if anything really went wrong, I'd have no problem getting it fixed.

Hmm... Could you point out where I said that? You think the insurance company is going to give you what the car is worth totaled? If that were the case why would anyone have insurance. If you've got an '06 Si and total it and still owe more than its worth you deserve to be upside down on your loan. Douche.

It comes down to personal choice. I paid $815 for my 7yr/100k with $0 deductible. We have 4 honda's in the family. All 4 have the extended warranty. So far the amount of warranty work done on my CRV alone is more than what we paid for all 4 warranties combined. So in my case, it has worked out well. This doesn't happen for everyone.
The warranty is for your personal piece of mind. If something were to go wrong, you don't have worry about paying some huge bill. Like I said, its personal choice. Also, shop around before buying it. I found better deals online and had it "price matched" when I bought my car.

We have the extended warranty on both of our Si's. We plan on keeping these vehicles for awhile and the peace of mind is nice. On the 09 if we don't use it we get our money back, can't beat that

gap insurance is a must.
one thing you must always have when you buy a new car.
and extended warranty is worth it, if you plan on keeping it stock 100% of your ownership.
